You could grab a pint at that cozy pub downtown, but you won’t find sweeping Okanagan Lake vistas or a chef’s tasting menu with wine pairings there. For that, you need these elevated spots. Some are refined hideaways perfect for impressing out-of-town relatives, while others buzz with live music, farm-to-table flair, and patios where you can linger as the sun dips behind the hills.

There’s often at least one disappointing thing about a local tavern, whether it’s the limited menu, the predictable atmosphere, or the fact that it’s just another chain. Leopold’s Tavern Kelowna – Bernard presents no such issues. It’s welcoming, offers weekly specials, and has delicious vegetarian choices. There are also mouthwatering burgers among Christmas lights and eclectic wall art. The original burger incorporates fresh toppings, like a smash burger with perfect sauce.

Basil & Mint

We especially like this Kelowna spot because it feels like a cozy, upscale restaurant that just happens to offer exceptional value. This place serves delicious food, and it looks like a modern fine dining space with warm lighting and comfortable seating. There’s a spacious indoor area filled with attentive servers and professional chefs, as well as an upcoming patio for relaxed al fresco dining.
The only catch is that you might have to plan ahead for a special occasion, but it’s not like you have to break the bank in order to enjoy the experience.
Baxter’s Bar & Grill
$$ | (250) 868-3724 | WEBSITE

Baxter’s Bar & Grill is right in the heart of Kelowna, and the atmosphere here makes most other pubs feel like chain restaurants that happen to serve beer. It’s the perfect place to unwind after work, or the fact that your evening no longer involves deciding between wings that are just okay and wings that are actually worth eating. Just make sure to get there before the regulars claim all the good seats. You aren’t the only one who enjoys sitting at the bar while staring at the BClotto screen.
McCulloch Station Pub
$$ | (250) 762-8882 | WEBSITE

This Kelowna pub feels welcoming, but you can come dressed casually, and any photo you take here could go straight on a postcard. Since this place offers plenty of natural light and beautiful views, it never feels dark or closed in. The real reason to come to McCulloch Station Pub, however, is the homemade food, which features a range of options in an uninterrupted selection and has a surprisingly satisfying beef dip.
Stop here on a game night when you’re in the mood for crispy chicken sandwiches or Yorkies.
Memphis Blues Barbeque House & Catering Co.
$$ | (250) 868-3699 | WEBSITE

If you want to know what kind of barbecue you could have if you threw a couple hundred dollars at a Southern feast in Kelowna, head to this barbecue house on the main strip. Memphis Blues has a central dining area and an enclosed, covered patio with lots of rustic charm and good music playing blues and rock. That patio is where you’ll get the best atmosphere as you sip on a cold local beer and snack on bites like the full rack beef ribs and barbecue nachos.
Coop Wicked Chicken& Bar Kelowna
$$ | (778) 484-0148 | WEBSITE

If you’re looking for a cozy chicken fix without leaving the city, Coop Wicked Chicken & Bar Kelowna is your best option. Just a short drive from downtown, this spot has a welcoming bar-like atmosphere, with a comfortable indoor space on one side and a pleasant outdoor patio on the other. We’d tolerate average bar food for the friendly service and local vibe, but thankfully, the food here is actually phenomenal.
You’d think a chicken-focused bar would turn into a rowdy, crowded scene pretty quickly, but this place feels like a relaxed, neighborhood hangout, even when they turn the music up and the bar fills up towards evening.
Bar One
$ | (250) 860-1133 | WEBSITE

At Bar One in Kelowna, all the beers are cold, including the craft brews. The cozy indoor dining area is perfect for a casual dinner or quick bite with friends, but the recently improved bar is the real reason to come here. The warm lighting and welcoming atmosphere make it feel more like a friend is inviting you over for drinks at their local spot. It also has some of the best people-watching in downtown Kelowna, with everyone dressed comfortably and enjoying the friendly vibe.
97 Street Pub
$$ | (250) 979-6921 | WEBSITE

There are a lot of casual pubs with decent food in Kelowna, but none are like 97 Street Pub. The next time you really want to satisfy your cravings, head to this comfortable spot with phenomenal dishes, friendly service, and often live music. Most people enjoy the generous 20oz pints of draft beer at great prices, but we recommend trying the cod tacos or braised beef poutine, which are true highlights.
The super friendly staff, including an exceptional server named Alex, makes the experience fantastic, even if the parking situation can be a bit challenging. The overall atmosphere is great, with a comfortable ambiance that pairs well with half-price appetizers on certain days and a good selection of beers.
Bar Norcino
$$ | (778) 484-0490 | WEBSITE

Bar Norcino’s downtown spot is one of the most pleasant places to grab a bite in the heart of Kelowna. (Though we can’t rule out lingering on the wooden benches after your meal.) Order a Franco’s Euro Pilsner or a $6 local draft, settle into a comfortable metal chair, and admire the neighborhood gem vibe, inherited from when this space was just another downtown storefront. If the service feels a bit rushed, try to savor every bite of the Curious Royale burger or the chicken parmigiana.
