Verdun is to mediocre breakfasts what Montreal is to poutine—a place where you might stumble into a diner serving reheated eggs and charging $8 for burnt toast. But it’s not all sad omelets and weak coffee in Verdun. There are spots crafting some of the fluffiest pancakes in Quebec, some of the coziest brunch nooks, and sunny patios perfect for sipping fresh OJ. If you’re hunting for the morning’s best bites, start here.
l’Eggs Oeufs du marché
$ | (514) 439-8622 | WEBSITE

Most breakfast spots in Verdun feel like rushed morning routines, but l’Eggs Oeufs du marché is an exception. The spacious restaurant located near Jean Talon Market is a lovely place to settle into a relaxed weekend vibe away from the usual bustle. Here, there’s a classic breakfast menu with affordable options, some excellent dishes like the chocolate and banana waffle topped with raspberries, blueberries, and whipped cream, and waitstaff who are actually friendly and efficient.
It’s a great quick-service meal option, but we’d also come back just for the tasty eggs benny with brie and mushroom, the variety of fresh fruit in the bowl, and that bright, kid-friendly atmosphere.
Extra Oeufs
$ | (514) 374-5958 | WEBSITE

Extra Oeufs is a charming little neighborhood spot in Verdun that serves hearty breakfast and lunch, and is really the only place you want to be eating at on or near Wellington Street. Extra Oeufs is our favorite place to grab eggs benedict or a loaded omelet if we’re in the area and need a comfortable meal (or just wait for the weekend crowd to thin out). The food is great too—way beyond a few simple breakfast options.
Petinos LaSalle
$$ | (514) 419-6969 | WEBSITE

If you’re looking for a breakfast spot that’ll make you feel like you’re getting the most bang for your buck, head to Petinos LaSalle. The generous restaurant is located in Ville Lasalle. The big place can seat a sizable crowd, with well-lit dining areas, a welcoming atmosphere, and bright lighting that’ll make you want to dig into your plate like you’ve been waiting all morning for this meal. That food is delicious and also ranges from about $12 to $18 for a main. So, you know—solid value.
Le Vieux Velo
$$ | (514) 439-5595 | WEBSITE

Among the bustling breakfast spots and trendy cafes you’ll find throughout Verdun is Le Vieux Velo. This is Verdun’s best breakfast nook, and has been the most reliable place to escape the morning rush while still enjoying a quality meal for several years now. It’s cozy, welcoming, has a popular eggs Benedict that sells out quickly once they open at 9am daily (seriously), and feels like a place where you’d enjoy a leisurely weekend brunch with friends.
In fact, many do—and the friendly service and kid-friendly atmosphere make it a neighborhood favorite. Not much needs to change here since the food quality remains consistently high. It’s also one of the few breakfast spots in Verdun where you can still find that layered, clean taste of a homecooked meal made with the best ingredients.
L’Oeufrier (HoMa)
$$ | (514) 379-3694 | WEBSITE

L’Oeufrier is a fine place to grab unlimited Lavazza coffee and pretend you’re a breakfast connoisseur. The high ceilings, loud atmosphere, and kid-friendly booths with coloring activities feel forced (especially since this spot comes to us from Verdun). But this little restaurant never fails to make us feel like we’re a nonchalantly cool background actor in a weekend brunch scene.
They have delicious dishes like the Le Bleuet plate with Greek yogurt and cream cheese frosting and burgers with truffeled parmesan potatoes. If you’re hungry, stick to the vegetarian avocado toast—just what you want to be mindlessly eating with that unlimited coffee refill.
Bagel Etc
$$ | (514) 845-9462 | WEBSITE

Bagel Etc is technically a breakfast spot, but locals brunch here too. Like the name implies, it’s very bagel-focused, though they also have some standout egg dishes that make things a tad more varied. Despite the simple menu, it’s one of Verdun’s better morning options—especially if you’re looking for something more cozy. The eggs benedict are straightforward but tasty, and Sunday mornings are bustling, a good call if you want to eat well in one of Montreal’s most beloved neighborhoods.
L’Oeufrier (De La Montagne)
$$ | (438) 387-8271 | WEBSITE

L’Oeufrier (De La Montagne) occupies a pleasant sweet spot between cozy breakfast nook and bustling morning destination. If you’d prefer more of a relaxed, light and airy atmosphere, come earlier, particularly to avoid the peak hours when it can get busy. After the morning rush, the sizable space fills with customers, and the friendly service remains attentive despite the crowd. The breakfast options are solid and the portions are much more generous than 99% of the typical breakfast spots.
The key to a great experience here is knowing what kind of morning you’re after, and timing your visit accordingly to enjoy options like the salmon guac toast, breakfast sandwiches, or blueberry pancakes without the longer wait.
Coco Frutti Concorde
$ | (450) 661-3143 | WEBSITE

In our ideal world, Verdun would be dotted with breakfast spots serving perfectly crispy yet soft potatoes in a relaxed, family-friendly space that makes 8am feel like a leisurely weekend afternoon. Coco Frutti Concorde has all of that, plus complimentary pencils for children and the best lunch potatoes within the neighborhood. This restaurant provides generous portions and excellent coffee, and delivers a perfect dose of morning comfort while still feeling attentive.
There’s service here too—thoughtful touches alongside a slightly indefinable blend of dining elements that range from adult favorites to kid-friendly atmosphere.
The Famous Cosmo’s
$ | (514) 486-3814 | WEBSITE

The Famous Cosmo’s is a breakfast spot where you can get a full meal for $10 to $15 and eat it at a small counter that feels pleasantly cozy. The restaurant is actually a classic Montreal greasy spoon, a good local spot in Verdun—where the neighborhood gets a little less polished. It has an old-school cool thing going on, with limited seating for small groups and prices that are quite reasonable for the area.
L’Oeufrier (Lachine)
$$ | (514) 300-6383 | WEBSITE

L’Oeufrier in Lachine is a welcoming breakfast spot that is, admittedly, more of a family restaurant than a quick-service joint. But you can certainly still come here just for a quick bite—and have a satisfying meal doing so. There’s a cozy dining area where you can sit alongside high chairs for babies and little treats like a glass of orange juice. They offer generous portions of delicious food, with breakfast options ranging from poached eggs to grilled cheese.
You can pair them with a fun drink, but the kids’ menus are also great served on their own. And if you do happen to linger, the service is very good too.
Café St-Barth – Breakfast
$$ | (514) 303-8866 | WEBSITE

Café St-Barth isn’t strictly a breakfast spot. They serve all day, but you really come here for morning rituals, which makes it a breakfast institution in our eyes. The cozy café opens early every day (and stays busy through late morning), but the best time to visit is for their famous weekend brunch, when you get super fresh ingredients and the most welcoming atmosphere of your morning. You’ll want to arrive early for that.
Bagel St-Lo Verdun
$ | (514) 507-8430 | WEBSITE

Bagel St-Lo Verdun is a breakfast spot that feels like a cross between a cozy neighborhood cafe and a bustling brunch hub—or a brunch-bustle, which is a phrase we just coined that’s as satisfying to say as this place is to eat at. Even though it’s just a quick order-and-pay setup, Bagel St-Lo is bright, welcoming, and will make you feel like you’re in the heart of a friendly local hangout. The food menu is varied and consistently delicious, especially the Benedict variations.
Eggsquis
$ | (450) 443-0358 | WEBSITE

Eggsquis is another very popular breakfast spot in Verdun, where you might see the staff efficiently handling the morning rush with practiced ease. The breakfast is good, but the atmosphere shifts depending on the time and day. Come early and you can have a relaxed meal and coffee before starting your day. On weekend mornings, it can get a little crowded and busy enough that finding a table might require some patience.
It’s also a good place to kill time if you’re waiting for other shops to open, which are just down the street.
L’Œuf Alpha
$ | (438) 375-7759 | WEBSITE

There is really never a bad time to come to L’Œuf Alpha. They’ve got one of our favorite breakfast poutines, with generous portions and fresh ingredients at reasonable prices. The weekend morning scene is warm without feeling rushed, and the classic lunch or friendly breakfast outing is reliable. This place is everything we love about Verdun: charming and inviting and not afraid of a warm atmosphere, without any of the nasty overpriced stuff you’ll eat and drink elsewhere.
Also, if you are a breakfast poutine, order theirs with the variety of meat. It’s a triumph.
