In the pantheon of American classics, few things hit the spot like a perfectly crafted burger. Between the char of a juicy patty, the tang of special sauce, and the comfort of a soft bun, even a decent burger can satisfy. But why settle for decent when Ashland has so many standout options? Here are the best burger restaurants in town.
Crisp’s Dairy Treat
$ | (606) 928-8193 | WEBSITE

Crisp’s Dairy Treat has an outdoor seating area brightened up with colorful picnic tables, string lights that stay up year-round, and enough nostalgic charm to classify as a local landmark, which means you don’t have to scramble to find somewhere to dig into their excellent burgers. There are only a few things (currently) on the menu that really shine: a thick chocolate milkshake for $5 and a classic cheeseburger for $6.
This classic combo is loaded up with juicy beef, crispy lettuce, and enough special sauce to make a fast-food chain jealous. So sit back and relax as you dig into a burger while kids laugh and play in the background.
Applebee’s Grill + Bar
$ | (606) 324-6646 | WEBSITE

Applebee’s Grill + Bar makes the best wings in town, which is why we have no problem showing up to this spot whenever the desire for well-seasoned chicken hits. The wings are perfectly crispy on the outside, and tender in the center. And the ratio of sauce to seasoning to meat is true perfection. Our favorite burger spot is located in Ashland, KY, and accepts all major credit cards.
We like getting the version with flavorful Bourbon Street Chicken, but going for the Mac and Cheese, Honey Pepper Chicken, or Fiesta Chicken is never a bad idea either.
Fat Patty’s
$ | (606) 325-7287 | WEBSITE

The cozy Ashland spot specializes in burgers, fries, and pizza—and some pretty stellar French dips. While you’ll get to pick from a decent-sized burger menu, like the Lasso Burger and various loaded options, the corn queso is what will most likely keep you coming back. It is phenomenal. An extra generous portion of elote-inspired queso is served warm and then smothered in a creamy housemade sauce and a ton of fresh corn. This is one where you may want to grab an extra napkin or two—it gets messy.
IHOP
$ | (606) 324-4444 | WEBSITE

When other breakfast spots in Ashland are packed (which happens), drive the short distance to IHOP for meals that are just as satisfying. While more affordable, this classic diner does have a slightly broader menu with standout options like avocado sweet and buttery grits. Our go-to, though, is the friendly and attentive service, especially from a staff member named Angelica, who makes sure everything is perfect. And unlike some places, IHOP has a parking lot right out the front door.
Steak ‘n Shake
$ | (606) 618-0994 | WEBSITE

The first thing you’ll notice about the burgers at this drive-in style spot in Ashland is that they’re generously sized—these classic patties are thick. And compared to other joints in town, theirs has thicker layers of cheese, which is definitely to our liking. Get the classic Steakburger—juicy, savory, and an all-around winner.
Burger King
$ | (606) 928-6927 | WEBSITE

The Whopper from this Ashland fast-food chain skips the usual fancy toppings, but their classic burger makes that easy to overlook. The flame-grilled patty is cooked until juicy and is complemented by crisp lettuce and ripe tomatoes. And if you drive through, you’ll get a side of perfectly golden fries with your order.
Rally’s
$ | (606) 327-5533 | WEBSITE

Like the name suggests, Rally’s specializes in classic American fast food—an ideal pairing, like late nights and greasy cravings. We love this Ashland spot because their burgers are a pretty great value, considering they are consistently hot and fresh. Options include the number three burger and classic fries, but you’ll want to zero in on the drive-thru experience that comes with the big helping of friendly service and efficient staff we now want at every fast-food stop.
