Barrie has a lot going on. Aside from being a vibrant waterfront city with stunning lake views, it’s also home to a thriving dining scene that’s perfect for exploring on foot. The city boasts some fantastic cocktail bars and restaurants, from cozy neighborhood spots to some of the best special occasion places in the whole region.

Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar
$$ | (705) 726-7171 | WEBSITE

Barrie’s not exactly known for prime rib (our beloved steakhouses aside), but Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar is changing that. They’re serving generous and flavorful spins on classic grillhouse fare that are so substantial, they look like they’ve been crafted by a seasoned chef. But somehow, none of them feel overly heavy. Case in point: The prime rib that’s perfectly cooked and tender, and the shrimp risotto that’s brimming with creamy sauce, plump shrimp, and fresh herbs.
Just don’t order these to go: they’re best enjoyed at the warm, nicely designed bar while they’re still perfectly plated, especially with servers like Paul and Yolanda who add witty, energetic charm to the experience.
Common Good Cafe & Social House
$$ | (705) 734-2227 | WEBSITE

This cozy Barrie spot is a reliable, fun, and tasty option for brunch, especially when a basic breakfast just won’t do. Everything on the menu shines with quality ingredients, and our favorites are the Omelette and the flaky croissant sandwich called The Best.
But no matter what, you need to order the double shot turbo espresso and the peach cobbler with its crunchy toast and soft caramelized peaches, which we like to enjoy alongside a Mimosa Flight while soaking up the lively atmosphere with friends.
Michael & Marion’s and The Side Door
$$$ | (705) 721-1188 | WEBSITE

It costs anywhere from $25 to $45 per person to eat at Michael & Marion’s and The Side Door. But unlike a lot of casual dining spots in town, this hidden gem is actually a fun place to have dinner with its lively atmosphere, amazing live music, and delicious dishes like the favorite calamari. There’s no pretension here—instead, the deeply caring owners and fast staff ensure you have a memorable experience.
The experience can feel nostalgic at first, but like any good neighborhood spot, you’ll always end up with the right amount of great food and wonderful service.
Pirogi+
$$ | (705) 252-6653 | WEBSITE

Pirogi+, a cocktail bar restaurant serving modern twists on Eastern European comfort food that lands it on the list of Barrie’s Best Cocktail Bars—which we’re certain is absolutely a legitimate ranking—is the dinner destination in the area. Whipped feta appetizers arrive with a creamy, tangy spread that tastes even better when you start enthusiastically “mmm-ing” at the table. Generous bison sliders are packed with juicy, savory meat and unique spices.
And the space itself feels like a charming set straight out of a contemporary design magazine with perfect lighting and modern decor. You’ll want to linger there all evening sipping on one of the bar’s best red sangrias.
Evviva Breakfast & Lunch
$$ | (705) 410-2989 | WEBSITE

Evviva Breakfast & Lunch isn’t just one of the best breakfast spots in Barrie, it’s one of the best in the entire region. The menu here stays reliably consistent, but staples like their Power Bowl with salmon or Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich are always available—and even if you’ve been here a dozen times, you’d be hard-pressed to find a dish that doesn’t satisfy.
From the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich to the Greek Salad with its unique olive dressing, the menu makes it easy to please whoever you’re with.
CW Coop’s – BARRIE
$$ | (705) 503-9737 | WEBSITE

CW Coop’s is perfect for spontaneously gathering when your casual night out suddenly turns into a full-blown celebration. First of all, the atmosphere is lively and fun. And most of the chicken wings come in generous portions, so having a group is the best way to take advantage of the impressive variety of flavors. Go for the classic buffalo, honey garlic, and lemon pepper boneless wings.
B’Spoke Kitchen + Market
$$ | (705) 252-6653 | WEBSITE

This cute little place can be as casual as you want it to be, which is why it’s great for a company lunch or special celebrations with friends who don’t mind the cozy atmosphere. There’s a fabulous variety of options with seasonal cocktails like the sand dune running around $14 (if it’s a treat-yourself kind of afternoon), or you can just stick with the nice drink specials.
When in doubt, go for the hot and crispy halloumi fries, anything with that fresh mango in sangria, or one of the gourmet hot dogs scrawled on the chalkboard up front.
Linx Kitchen + Social
$$$ | (705) 503-5469 | WEBSITE

You could go to Linx Kitchen + Social for a full dinner, but our favorite time to visit this popular spot is for drinks and snacks in the lively main area. They serve excellent cocktails, both with and without elaborate garnishes, and we’re partial to their margaritas, especially alongside one of their tacos. The tacos come with fresh toppings and flavorful fillings, with nicely crunchy shells that add a satisfying texture to each bite.
