Saint John might be one of the last vestiges of Atlantic Canada keeping the spirit of hearty, no-fuss eats alive. You’ll find some of the crispiest fries and the most satisfying poutines in the province here, but also have to deal with seagull squadrons eyeing your takeout bag. In recent years, it’s become a haven for quick, craveable classics—yes, we’re talking about those perfect, golden onion rings.
That hasn’t changed Saint John’s unpretentious appetite though (drive-thrus are always suitable for dinner). And the city takes its fast food very seriously, especially when it comes to burgers made with that signature East Coast zest.

For the ultimate quick coffee stop, head to Tim Hortons, which is conveniently located with nearby parking and a well-designed drive-through. They’ve got a welcoming atmosphere and a kid-friendly setup that makes it easy for families to pop in. Tim Hortons also uses their busy space to maintain efficient service with polite and patient staff. Order a classic coffee with one of their lovely sandwiches or donuts.
We know a ton of people who just come here for their amazing coffee too, particularly the drive-through option that’s perfect for a fast pick-up.
Dairy Queen Grill & Chill
$ | (506) 633-1098 | WEBSITE

Dairy Queen Grill & Chill is in a well-established building that has been operating for decades, which makes it our favorite example of somewhere that has truly preserved the nostalgic charm of Saint John. While it has undergone several renovations over the years, watching the staff quickly assemble burgers and Blizzards is its own kind of show. Their food options come with straightforward names like the chicken burger and hamburgers that are particularly popular.
Never overlook the classics though: their Blizzard soft serve that’s called a cake now costs over $40 for one. Dairy Queen’s solid premises make it a functional place to grab a quick meal—customers won’t be crowded and service usually helps reduce wait times, though dining in feels out of the question with the dated interior and bathroom located outside behind the building.
LebanOn The Go
$ | (506) 636-2677 | WEBSITE

Spending a morning in Saint John usually means grabbing a rushed, forgettable breakfast from some chain. Reject that and stop by LebanOn The Go—they make seafood that’ll probably become the highlight of the whole day. You’ll find it conveniently located with a clean, welcoming space that’s brimming with great options.
You can always try the tower assortment, but we like getting the lobster roll—the fresh, flavorful seafood immediately elevates the meal out of Sad Fast Food territory, and it even holds up as a cozy, pleasant lunch.
Arby’s
$ | (506) 633-1775 | WEBSITE

Just a quick drive from the uptown core, this Arby’s is the perfect stop for a satisfying meal and the best place to enjoy classic fast food in Saint John while getting great service. The roast beef sandwich uses their signature thinly sliced beef and comes with a generous amount of sauce, and it’s basically the best quick bite we’ve ever had.
If that item didn’t tip you off, Arby’s doesn’t hold back when it comes to specials—all of their deals are loaded like the classic combo with curly fries and a refreshing drink. Order at the counter or use the drive-thru and grab a seat in either the clean dining area or the lively renovated section for the best atmosphere. Just know they sometimes run out of roast beef and it’s recommended to check ahead for availability.
Harvey’s
$ | (506) 632-8393 | WEBSITE

Just off the main drag, Harvey’s serves up classic burgers expertly crafted with whatever toppings you can imagine. And the chicken isn’t half bad either—we love grabbing a junior chicken sandwich loaded with fresh fixings for a satisfying lunch. The single-story restaurant is made for family meals or quick bites surrounded by clean counters and comfortable booth seating.
The kitchen provides a menu full of hot options, making Harvey’s one of the few places to get a truly fresh-cooked burger in town.
Wendy’s
$ | (506) 674-1000 | WEBSITE

Wendy’s on the west side feels like stepping into a model of fast-food consistency. The restaurant has been serving the west side for years, maintaining its reputation through careful attention to detail. When you walk in, the bright lighting and spotless surfaces immediately signal this isn’t your average chain location. And it remains one of the most reliable spots in town for a quick, satisfying meal.
Grab a double JBC burger made with that signature care, perfectly crisp fries, and one of their consistently accurate orders—the friendly staff makes sure everything arrives just as it should.
Deluxe French Fries
$ | (506) 642-2424 | WEBSITE

Say you’re craving something fried after a long day at work, need a quick bite before catching a movie, or just want to treat yourself without the fuss. Deluxe French Fries is your reliable solution for classic comfort food done right. They insist on serving their fish and chips with the skin on for extra crispiness. Most customers (including us) appreciate the texture, but we have on one occasion actually seen somebody request it skinless.
Our go-to order is the whole clams basket with a side of tartar sauce and the Deluxe Burger, a juicy patty piled high with fresh toppings. Deluxe French Fries also happens to be one of the few spots in town where you can get a satisfying meal for under $15, so expect the place to be buzzing during peak hours.
Poutinewagon
$ | WEBSITE

To get to Poutinewagon, you’ll have to look for a modest storefront in Saint John. This place is hardly a secret though, as it’s one of the most well-known spots for fast food in town. And there’s a good chance you’ll actually strike up a conversation with fellow customers at the counter or small tables if you’re grabbing a quick bite alone or sharing generous portions with friends. The donair poutine is a non-negotiable.
It’s incredibly satisfying and comes loaded with toppings like donair meat and cheese curds, but can totally stand on its own with a simple drizzle of gravy. You can’t go wrong with the Mac Daddy poutine either, with creamy mac and cheese, crispy bacon bits, and perfectly cooked fries. They’re serving some of the best value you’ll find in Saint John, and we particularly like their vegetarian options like the vegan burger.
El Patron Taco Truck
$ | (506) 910-2333 | WEBSITE

El Patron is the perfect spot for a quick, satisfying lunch, especially when you’re craving something authentic after scrolling through endless food options. This taco truck is parked in a convenient location and only serves a focused menu—their signature Birria tacos, crispy papa fritas, and refreshing grapefruit soda, with no substitutions. These tacos are generously filled, perfect for sharing, and will satisfy your hunger completely.
Go for the Birria tacos that feature tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef, perfect consommé, and generous toppings. Pair them with the crispy papa fritas for texture contrast and don’t forget the grapefruit soda to refresh your palate—it elevates the whole experience.
BeaverTails Saint John

Located along the bustling waterfront of Saint John, BeaverTails Saint John’s open-air counter and cheerful atmosphere is a perfect spot to grab a treat after exploring the city or if you’re craving something sweet after a day by the bay. They serve a fantastic array of pastries that capture Canadian flavors like the original beavertail, a golden-brown pastry that has the perfect balance of butter, cinnamon, and sugar.
The food is excellent as well, especially the salty brown gravy poutine and crispy, light beavertails. While waiting, they make the best conversations—friendly chats that are a hot topic with visitors.
Bob’s Corner Take-Out
$ | (506) 672-4024 | WEBSITE

Head to Bob’s Corner Take-Out to grab a quick bite in a cozy, homey spot, pay about $15 for a generous meal, and eat some top-notch Maritime chow. We’re always torn between the fresh and hot fish and chips, scallops, or clams, so we usually just order one of each in a combo platter. The liver with onions n fries is big enough for a meal itself but also works as a perfect side to a helping of fish.
The whole thing is supremely satisfying, served with a classic tartar sauce, and by far the best deal.
Burger King
$ | (506) 657-5400 | WEBSITE

Burger King is located along one of the main thoroughfares in Saint John, and it’s one of the better fast-food options in town (that’s also reliably quick). The dining area feels like a classic fast-food spot, with bright lighting, clean tables, booths along the side windows, and always attentive service. We love grabbing a meal here with family or friends after running errands around the city.
All the menu items are good, but the Whopper is the best thing here—get a Fiery Whopper or two for the table to share as a main. Just know they’re consistently open for both breakfast and lunch.
