Our Texas team eats its way through Katy’s dining scene monthly, revisiting classics and scouting new spots. Most make our regular rotation, but occasionally an Indian restaurant serves something so memorable we have to share it right away. Here are the 13 that recently stopped us in our tracks.
Grand Kabab & Biryani
$ | (346) 257-4123 | WEBSITE

We’ve been spending a lot of time at Grand Kabab & Biryani lately. It’s a nice place to visit when the suburban chain restaurant scene is starting to wear you down. The next time you’re thinking about settling for another bland takeout, come here and eat some chatpati chicken biryani instead.
Kurrywalah
$ | (832) 437-3800 | WEBSITE

Don’t let the unassuming storefront on Mason Street fool you. Their Chicken Tikka Masala is wonderfully flavorful and crafted with care: all tender chicken pieces and finely balanced spices. A highly effective naan-to-mouth delivery system.
Bombay Palace Indian Restaurant
$ | (281) 647-6111 | WEBSITE

Katy’s Bombay Palace Indian Restaurant is already a hit for their lunch buffet, but the chef’s special Bombay Feast deserves its own spotlight. It’s a delicious cross between a rich curry and a comforting stew, with tender goat meat, perfect spices, and creamy paneer, all served with fluffy basmati rice and a side of refreshing mango drink. The generous portions and fresh ingredients make for a satisfying meal that leaves you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished.
TikkaTemple Restaurant
$$ | (346) 355-8889 | WEBSITE

At TikkaTemple, the well-made garlic naan is the perfect vehicle for the rich, slow-simmered flavors of their Chicken Madras. A soft middle and crispy outside, a sauce with building Madras curry heat, and tender chicken pieces nod to authentic South Indian cooking, while fragrant basmati rice provides the foundation that really completes the dish.
Royal Biryani House
$ | (832) 437-4847 | WEBSITE

These days, Indian restaurants have to be really good to impress us. The chicken biryani from the Fulshear location of Royal Biryani House is right on the edge of too spicy, but the ever-so-slightly sweet earthiness of the basmati rice grounds it perfectly. Love the texture from the tender goat pieces in the alternative version, too.
Nawabs Biryani House
$ | (281) 394-2174 | WEBSITE

There are a lot of vibrant flavors coming out of the kitchen at Nawabs Biryani House in Katy. Everything here is decent, but their standout creation is the biryani. It has the same aromatic depth as the traditional versions you might have enjoyed elsewhere, but with perfectly cooked rice and a subtle blend of spices.
Himalayan food truck
$ | (903) 921-2562 | WEBSITE

Fresh, flavorful, and completely authentic, Himalayan Food Truck’s steamed momos combine so many delightful qualities in one perfectly wrapped homemade package. It’s a big reason to return to this friendly Nepali spot in Katy. Other reasons include their delicious chicken jhol momos, served with that unique and tasty sauce, and a second attempt to enjoy their crispy samosas that sell out quickly.
HotBits Indian Cuisine – Indian Restaurant in Katy, Houston, Sugarland, Fulshear, Richmond, Texas
$ | (832) 437-0559 | WEBSITE

Out in Katy, the garlic naan served with the rich chicken korma at HotBits is like a classic Indian bread that wandered through a spice market and gathered some aromatic, buttery notes along the way. A little creaminess from the paneer brings the whole satisfying meal together.
Larosh Grill
$ | (281) 861-4612 | WEBSITE

Sorry to the spice-averse, but the butter chicken at this Indian gem, which has become a Katy favorite, is pretty darn good, with rich sauce that coats tender chicken to reveal perfectly balanced flavors. That said, it’s all about the value, and the lunch menu bowls are better than ordering à la carte. If you’ve got the time and inclination, try the Chicken Tikka bowl, and maybe the classic butter chicken with naan.
Neetu’s Indian Kitchen
$ | (832) 920-0220 | WEBSITE

Between your appetizers and your main dishes at this unassuming Indian food truck, something wonderful happens: the pani puri. These crisp, hollow puris easily stand on their own. The burst of tangy tamarind water and the perfectly spiced potato filling inside each shell is just an added bonus.
Turmeric Indian Cuisine & Bar
$$ | (832) 915-3090 | WEBSITE

Stopping by Turmeric Indian Cuisine & Bar (while updating my Indian food recommendations), I anticipated the chicken tikka masala to impress me, as usual. But I never expected the chicken 65 biryani to steal the spotlight. The fragrant, spicy, and aromatic basmati rice is the centerpiece of the dish, with a perfectly balanced supporting cast of tender chicken, crispy fried onions, fresh herbs, and cooling raita.
Taste of India
$ | (346) 365-2987 | WEBSITE

This cozy Indian spot in Katy has been serving authentic South Indian food for years, and the warm atmosphere and friendly staff have been calling to us ever since. We finally walked in and ordered the Sunday buffet, which comes with must-try dishes like Chicken Dum Biryani, Kababs, and Bagara baingan. Bonus points for it being an under-$25 lunch with typical Indian flavors and desserts like Crown Kulfi.
The fresh food prepared to your preferred spice level and special deals like half-priced Masala Dosa on Thursday make it a top choice for quality Indian cuisine at a decent price.
Rasoi – Indian Takeout & Pizza
$ | (832) 278-1571 | WEBSITE

I waited 35 minutes standing by the counter under the bright takeout lights for this achari pizza and I’d happily do it again tomorrow. Spreading the spicy pickled mango, creamy paneer, and tandoori chicken onto crispy crust triangles will satisfy even the pickiest of Pauls. Grab a side of chole puri, and drizzle the saag juices over it for an unforgettable bite.
