Kumori Sushi & Teppanyaki Nolana
$$ | (956) 618-5677 | WEBSITE

Kumori Sushi & Teppanyaki Nolana feels like a cozy blend of a classic sushi bar (with its dimmed lighting and aesthetic, relaxing decor) and your friend’s favorite date-night spot with a lively, welcoming energy. The restaurant has a super chill, “we’ve been doing this since ’98” vibe that’s pretty endearing—so even though they’re not serving the absolute best sushi in McAllen, it’s still one of our favorite places to grab a roll.
Come to hang out with your crew, just make sure you show up around 7ish to avoid a long wait. And you really want to get here early for Friday’s teppanyaki night, where $45 gets you a sizzling platter of beef and shrimp to share with your table, served with that incredible rice.

Kumori Sushi & Teppanyaki Palms Crossing is a Japanese restaurant with a clean and upbeat environment, outstanding sushi, and chill vibes that make it perfect for a shopping break. Order our favorite dish, the Jupiter roll with its well-balanced flavors, or the tempura cheesecake that has become a favorite among diners. But the $85 omakase experience is also a wise move since it’s a great showcase of the kitchen’s talented use of fresh, quality ingredients.
The restaurant’s unassuming location in a shopping center might not indicate that it has been in the top-tier of McAllen dining for years—it’s an IYKYK-type place, but the space is always booked and busy, so don’t wait until the day of to try for a reservation. The staff, including standout server Hector who makes guests feel special, along with Melanie and Pablo, are friendly, attentive, and quick to offer recommendations.
Customers have praised the well-balanced cocktails and the hot sauce that comes with the fried calamari. With reasonable prices and attentive management, it’s no wonder this spot is considered the best sushi place in the valley.

The menu isn’t huge but the fish is so fresh that whatever you order here—generous nigiri, crispy tempura, unique California roll with crushed hot cheetos—is a hit.

The old-school vibe doesn’t feel dated, but it still transports you somewhere warm and welcoming with its traditional touches and that big fan keeping things comfortable even on warmer days.
