Blu Sushi is a Japanese spot that’s very close to Ridgewood’s downtown and has all of their sushi prepared by chef Masa. They do accommodate dietary restrictions like nut and shellfish allergies and there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options where your friends can get excited over who gets to try the 7 fishes roll first.
Sakura Bana Restaurant

Sakura Bana is a bit more authentic than other Japanese spots in Ridgewood, but you can think of this as steadily getting more impressive as you eat, instead of less. This is a great choice for a family dinner and will satisfy all of the people in your life who get excited about fresh fish and expertly prepared sushi.
Wasabi

After you finish your sushi at Wasabi, you’ll likely need to pause for a moment, and then you’ll be ready to consider ordering another round. At which point you’ll probably want to try the omakase and then need to sit back again. Fortunately, Wasabi’s atmosphere is the kind of place where you’ll want to savor every bite (warm lighting, cozy seating, etc) and also offers enough variety to satisfy your 60% sushi and 40% cooked options craving.
Masago Sushi (Ridgewood)

Masago Sushi’s not-so-secret deal is called the 3-roll combo, which is exactly how you should describe the meal to friends when they ask where to get great sushi without breaking the bank. For $25 a person, you get a generous selection with the must-try “Sexy on the Beach” roll, plus two more inventive sushi combinations from their fresh lineup. The whole table can share, but that shouldn’t be a tough decision given the exceptional value and friendly, fast service in the casual, no-frills space.
It’s BYOB, making it an even more appealing choice for a relaxed dinner that feels like a steal compared to other spots.
Shumi Japanese Cuisine

From one counter seat to another, save this spot for when you’re craving sushi so fresh it warrants watching the chefs work their magic while you sip sake. This Japanese restaurant is known for its top-quality omakase and offers an inviting atmosphere with attentive service. The environment is clean and provides a fun vibe, making it perfect for a special night out. Chef June ensures guests feel welcomed throughout their visit.
Sitting at the counter lets you watch the food being prepared, and the pacing of the meal is excellent. The fish quality is incredible, and the chefs behind the counter are always so generous and kind.
Kumo

Aside from being a great place to grab sushi during the week, Kumo also happens to be a favorite spot in Bergen County. Just know that the service can be hit or miss, but you can always bring your own bottle while you enjoy generous portions of fresh rolls like the White Crystal.
Maru Sushi

After pizza, bring your crew to Maru Sushi, a hidden gem where you can settle into cozy seats and watch talented chefs prepare each dish with care. This place is intimate, with a sushi bar that’s tastefully decorated and has some great specialty rolls like the Delectable Trio and Tuna Love, if you’re able to save room after the addictively delicious soy garlic edamame.
The omakase is fairly priced and delivers beyond expectations, with high-quality ingredients that stand out, whether it’s nigiri, maki, or the chef’s specials. Even if you’re not familiar with sushi, the staff is more than willing to help and recommend options, showing care for your dining experience. They may even give complimentary specialty pieces. The atmosphere and service are both exceptional, making it a must-visit spot in Ridgewood.
