Every Montreal neighborhood has its culinary escape. The Plateau has its French bistros, Mile End has its bagels, and Verdun? We get Mexico, where the daily agenda revolves around tacos al pastor and margaritas on the rocks.
Restaurant Manana
$$ | (514) 847-1050 | WEBSITE

Tucked away in Verdun, Restaurant Manana isn’t the most obvious dinner destination—especially if you’re coming from across town. But if you’re willing to make the trip, you’ll be treated to one of the warmest dining experiences in the neighborhood. And when we say warm, we mean homemade-salsa-on-the-table, margarita-in-hand type warm. The cozy space has essentially a few tables and a welcoming counter where Rosa works her magic.
Come here for some ceviche and beef enchiladas, just don’t be surprised if Rosa tells you about the regulars who’ve been coming for years. You’ll likely leave a couple of hours later, having completely forgotten you’re in the middle of a Quebec winter.
Guadalupe mexicaine
$$ | (514) 523-3262 | WEBSITE

With a cozy Mexican home feel, Guadalupe Mexicaine is a warm, festive oasis and perhaps your best opportunity to finally enjoy that authentic mole sauce you’ve been craving. This is a genuine dining experience (and a delicious one at that), but with impressive margaritas and even better homemade churros, the recipe is right for things to get happy. Take note, Guadalupe Mexicaine is down to transport you.
Tacos Tin Tan (St Henri)
$$ | (438) 542-1558 | WEBSITE

This mostly indoor restaurant is within easy reach of the St Henri neighborhood, meaning on weekend evenings this place resembles a cozy taco haven. So as long as you’re OK with that—or are part of that crowd yourself—you’ll have a delightful time. Expect Mexican heavy-hitters like birria tacos, simple but tasty options, and a compact menu selection. Everything’s quite delicious. And in case you’re wondering, the portions are on the smaller side, but no, the quality doesn’t disappoint.
IMPAC TACO
$ | (438) 225-9553 | WEBSITE

“We’re grabbing tacos in a mall, darling.” There are only so many places where you can get away saying that, and Verdun is one of them. Run by the super friendly owner, IMPAC TACO is tucked within the food court of a shopping center with fluorescent lighting and plastic tables in the corner. It’s an unremarkable backdrop, but you’re here for the food, which is authentic Mexican classics done right.
Think Birria tacos simmered with love, Pancita tacos with rich flavor, and gooey Al Pastor tacos that are to die for. We recommend checking out the huarache too, but you don’t need high expectations for atmosphere to eat at IMPAC TACO.
3 Amigos (Boucherville)
$$ | (450) 857-0719 | WEBSITE

On those bustling summer evenings (yes, it does get quite lively in Boucherville), our order at this Mexican spot always includes the birria tacos and fajitas poulet. But no matter what time of year it is, the riz mexicain super bon takes priority.
There are plenty of Mexican beers, tequila, cocktails, margaritas, and Sangria Azul to choose from, but we recommend the margaritas, the tequila, and the Sangria Azul, which comes with a fun ambiance, friendly staff, and live music on the summer terrace.
Le Tarasco

Weekend cravings for authentic Mexican food are common in Verdun, which makes finding spots with genuine flavor and generous portions essential—especially for dinner. Put Le Tarasco at the top of your must-visit list. The space feels cozy and colorful, with traditional decor, Spanish music videos playing, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. In other words, no craving goes unsatisfied at this family-owned restaurant in the neighborhood.
As far as food goes, we love the comforting Mexican classics the most, like the warm, hearty bowl of pozole and juicy carnitas tacos. The chocoflan is soft, rich, and dreamy, and refreshing drinks like the cantarito pequeño round things out perfectly. So everyone will leave full and happy.

After a long day exploring Montreal’s vibrant streets, treat yourself to an authentic Mexican feast at Ke’Tortas. This beloved local spot is tucked away in Verdun, offering a lively and welcoming space with colorful murals and rustic wooden tables. It feels like a genuine taquería where everyone’s enjoying birria tacos packed with tender meat and amazing sauces, tortas bursting with flavor, and aguachile with its very good, zesty kick.
The friendly service and correct atmosphere make it perfect for a casual meal, with most dishes priced around $12-18—our go-to is the taco trio with a refreshing agua fresca.
Cinco de mayo – Cuisine Mexicaine
$ | (514) 800-4029 | WEBSITE

When winter winds whip through Montreal, there are only really two things to do in Verdun: find a fireplace or find comfort food. Here’s a third: eat Mexican at Cinco de Mayo. The casual spot excels in a variety of traditional dishes: fiery al pastor tacos, oversized burritos brimming with carnitas and fresh toppings, and five different kinds of tacos.
Order the citrusy tortilla soup with meaty chunks of chicken and avocado relish, plus a sweet horchata drink, then take it all to the cozy, hacienda-style patio with unobstructed views of the neighborhood.
Arriba Burrito (St.Dénis)Quartier Latin
$$ | (514) 677-6172 | WEBSITE

For all the various types of Mexican spots available, a vibrant restaurant with a comfortable patio and great drinks is still somewhat hard to come by in Verdun. That’s why Arriba Burrito is a gem. Located in the Quartier Latin on St.Dénis, the restaurant is a great place to swing by on a lazy Saturday afternoon for a few piña coladas (we particularly like the fresh, tasty ones) and then accidentally stay for three hours.
Keep an eye on the crowd, as they’re mainly under 35 throughout the week enjoying the vegan options and rib eye steak tacos, plus dishes like birria tacos and loaded nachos.
Restaurant Tenorio’s
$$$ | (514) 272-3535 | WEBSITE

The stretch of restaurants lining Verdun’s main drag is the heart of the neighborhood’s Latin dining scene, and right in the middle sits Restaurant Tenorio’s. This Peruvian gem isn’t just our favorite spot for ceviche in Verdun, it’s one of our favorite restaurants in the entire city. It’s a place where families with young kids and groups of friends who remember when it first opened come together nightly to enjoy vibrant cocktails and savor some of the most exquisite Peruvian flavors around.
Even if pisco sours or perfectly presented ceviche are new experiences for you, by the end of the meal, you’ll be a devoted fan.
Escondite
$$ | (438) 375-4488 | WEBSITE

It wasn’t long ago that finding authentic Mexican food in Verdun meant settling for either fast-casual chains or underwhelming neighborhood spots. But that’s changed—and Escondite is the best proof yet. This vibrant, welcoming restaurant (perfect for special celebrations) goes all-in on festive atmosphere with warm lighting, colorful accents, and comfortable seating that accommodates groups beautifully. Still, the draw here is the food, which is delicious, generous, and memorable.
Order the gyoza nacho and the huge tacos.

The restaurant has been serving the neighborhood for years, but with its lovely patio and pleasant decor, it has firmly established itself as the area’s go-to destination for unwinding with friends, sipping margaritas like they’re tap water, and diving into excellent, flavorful tacos.
With its cozy indoor seating and the inviting outdoor patio, El Gordo is deceptively spacious, making it a fantastic choice if you’re heading to a show at the nearby theater with a group looking for a relaxed, enjoyable meal.

The beef tacos come highly recommended, and the Al pastor and carnitas tacos are seriously delicious. With fast and friendly service from owner Luis and his team, plus unbeatable prices around $3-4 per taco, you’ll find yourself returning multiple times to try more from their authentic menu.
Carlos Pepe’s

In most airports, a spacious dining room with vibrant papel picado banners, terra-cotta tile floors, and colorful woven chairs would feel out of place. At Montreal airport, Carlos Pepe’s fits right in. Tucked away in the terminal, this surprisingly awesome Mexican spot will remind every traveler—even the frequent flyers—that while in transit, we can still enjoy a proper meal. Expect super tasty fajitas sizzling on cast iron skillets and vampiro tacos piled high with fresh ingredients.

TACO TRUNP
$ | (438) 526-5054 | WEBSITE

Taco Trump is tucked away on a side street in Verdun, so don’t get discouraged if you circle the block a couple times before spotting it. Because when you finally do, you’ll have discovered one of our go-to spots for a quick, satisfying meal. Made with double tortillas that some find a bit heavy, and filled with everything from al pastor to fish, these aren’t your average tacos.
Our current favorite is the fish taco, but whichever one you order, just be sure to ask for extra homemade salsa on the side. It’s made with fresh ingredients and takes each taco to another level.
Los Tnt Tacos

It’s impossible to pick a favorite at a place like Los Tnt Tacos, but if you see their incredible tacos with Salsa verde or the extra kick of TNT sauce on the menu, get them.
Escondite Union
$$ | (514) 419-9755 | WEBSITE

We wish we had this Mexican spot around the corner from our apartment. The vibrant, beautiful restaurant is located in downtown Montreal, and they make some of our favorite Latin-Mexican fusion in town. You’re going to want the shrimp tacos, which are a must-try, and the gyoza nachos (noted to be the best nachos ever had) with a side of their sublime cocktails. Also note that there’s a $45 discovery menu here, in case you’re looking for a range of super delicious and interesting plates for later.
