If you ask a local where to find a proper meal in Connersville, they might just tell you to drive to Indianapolis instead. We hear you. The town’s reputation as a flyover food destination isn’t entirely baseless, but there are genuinely great plates here, if you know the spots. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, passing through on a road trip, or just craving a reliable dinner where you won’t fight for a parking spot, here are our 12 essential stops.
Long John Silver’s
$ | (765) 825-9222 | WEBSITE

Long John Silver’s is a reliably satisfying fast-food spot in Connersville, known since its opening for their consistently good seafood and wonderful service in a clean dining room. Right at the entrance, the wheelchair ramp and close parking make it accessible for all, while inside, the bright, no-fuss atmosphere feels welcoming for quick meals or special occasions.
Both their popular lobster bites and the rest of the fried seafood menu are delicious, but you should also appreciate the kind, understanding staff who go above and beyond to help resolve any issues, including those caused by the app. The one thing we don’t love about this place is that the app can sometimes be frustrating, though management is quick to fix problems.
Kunkel’s Drive In
$ | (765) 825-9211 | WEBSITE

Open since the mid-20th century, Kunkel’s Drive In is an institution along the geologic timescale of a town where many businesses have come and gone. But there’s no mistaking this classic spot for a modern fast-food chain: Almost everything here is nostalgic and charming, from the vintage neon sign glowing in the evening to the carhop service (and even the old-school menu boards).
But what Kunkel’s offers in history, it more than delivers with very good burgers, with a juicy, perfectly cooked patty that’s wonderfully flavorful. Order the bacon cheeseburger with a thick milkshake.
Big Boyz
$ | (765) 825-1600 | WEBSITE

This no-frills, Indiana-style pizza joint in Connersville is a solid choice for groups and families, not to mention hungry locals who need their food to come out reliably and fast. You’re in for a satisfying—if not particularly fancy—meal here, though we’d definitely steer you toward the square-cut pizza over anything else. Especially the generously topped large pizza, which is much more filling than you’d reasonably expect.
The best thing about Big Boyz is that it really takes advantage of its convenient location, with a nice atmosphere inside, and an outdoor patio area that could use some repair to the rotting wood.
Stacks
$$ | (765) 827-3959 | WEBSITE

This Connersville breakfast spot from a dedicated local owner exclusively serves hearty morning meals, no dinner. You have to arrive early to secure a table—before the weekend rush fills the place. Despite the wait, Stacks is essential eating for anyone who values quality in the field of breakfast classics.
Their generously portioned plates skew comforting and affordable—as you’d expect from a family-run establishment—but they’re excellent, especially the pancake stacks with real maple syrup and at least $12 worth of perfectly cooked bacon on the side.
El Mezcal Grill
$$ | (765) 692-0263 | WEBSITE

El Mezcal Grill opened in Connersville, and once counted the entire town among its regulars. The locals have taste: They make excellent fresh guacamole here, and even better burritos. From veggie bowls to carne asada tacos, just about every Mexican standard is available—but the veggie burrito bowl is the dish scribbled at the very top of their menu for good reason.
It’s generous, with ingredients that achieve the perfect balance of fresh and flavorful, and is well complemented by the attentive service, especially from a server named Tarren who ensures every visit is memorable. There’s plenty of seating in the nicely designed, clean interior, so plan on settling in for a satisfying meal.
Jack’s Donuts
$ | (765) 377-7363 | WEBSITE

Jack’s Donuts, located in Connersville, is known for its delicious donuts and friendly service that’s about as warm as a fresh batch. If you need a place for a casual breakfast or an impressive treat run—whether in town or just passing through—this spot should be near the top of your list. Parking is plentiful, with 5 to 10 slots available, and that’s usually how we stop here.
Just be aware that the caramel iced cinnamon roll with coconut might sell out early (which is better than skipping it, but still). Once you get inside, order both a Superman ice cream and a gluten-free donut.
Parkview Restaurant
$ | (765) 825-8845 | WEBSITE

If you told the regulars this place was just another breakfast chain—it’s actually a local gem—they might give you a look that says you don’t belong at their counter. But comfort food is a state of mind, and for a classic Midwestern morning experience, there’s no better option than this charming neighborhood spot.
Expect a friendly buzz at the community hub, which regularly serves up generous portions of fluffy pancakes and perfectly cooked eggs that surpass what you’d find at larger commercial competitors. Come with an appetite and let the welcoming atmosphere convince you to do things “old-fashioned.” That just means enjoying satisfying portions at reasonable prices, thoroughly.
Brian’s Bistro and More
$ | (765) 827-4675 | WEBSITE

A Connersville staple for years, Brian’s Bistro and More is widely recognized as the best spot for home cooking in town. They serve wonderfully fluffy french toast, though our favorite is the biscuits and gravy, made with rich sausage gravy and your choice of sides. But honestly, you don’t come to Brian’s Bistro for fancy dining. You come for the welcoming neighborhood feel: the clean wooden tables, the quiet dining room, the friendly regulars, and especially the exceptional coffee.
The coffee is always fresh, which feels just right.
Jonesy’s
$$$ | (765) 222-2186 | WEBSITE

Though technically across the county line into Fayette County, Jonesy’s in its charming craftsman house feels emblematic of the historic Midwest neighborhood.
The restaurant is from the people behind the local culinary scene, and while it shares some DNA (impressive fireplace, servers in crisp attire, general warmth), it’s cozier and more intimate, with inventive dishes (fried Brussels sprouts with a new twist) that are just as good as the classics (ribeye with waxed beans and roasted fingerling potatoes).
If you can’t get a prime weekend spot—and you might not—try the early evening for a special dinner out, where the chef personally greets guests and the atmosphere feels like stepping back into a fine old 1920 home.
Ole Rooste
$ | (765) 377-7082 | WEBSITE

If you’re craving a quintessential Midwestern dining experience—a welcoming local spot right in the heart of Connersville—Ole Rooste is exactly where you should head. The food at this restaurant with a stunning atmosphere is hearty, perfectly cooked, and delicious, especially the phenomenal bacon cheeseburger. Ole Rooste also has a special place in the community, because you’ll see friends and families gathering here to enjoy themselves together.
You could do much, much worse for a satisfying meal.
Great China Buffet
$ | (765) 827-8888 | WEBSITE

If you’ve driven through Connersville even once, you’ve spotted Great China Buffet, with its spacious parking lot and welcoming entrance. It’s worth stepping inside—even just to experience the family-friendly atmosphere of the beaded doorways, separate play area and soft serve ice cream machine of this popular dining spot. There’s a wide range of hot and fresh dishes to choose from too, and while the food quality here can be hit-or-miss, the plentiful, delicious mac and cheese is great.
Little Caesars Pizza
$ | (765) 222-2935 | WEBSITE

You go to Little Caesars Pizza in Connersville for one thing: affordable pizza. This quick-service spot also offers sides and drinks—but don’t get distracted. The pizzas are decent and cheesy, with an appropriate amount of toppings, and the friendly staff always has your order ready when you walk in. It’s no longer difficult to find parking here, but the dining area—with its bright lighting and simple plastic seating—is as functional as ever. Take advantage.
