But there are also newer spots serving exciting, contemporary food for locals who actually live here year-round. Here are our Nederland favorites.
Mama Kim’s

This Nederland Vietnamese restaurant serves pho every day, but lunchtime is the best time to come for the full bustling experience. The cozy dining room has warm lighting over simple wooden tables, where you’ll see a mix of regulars who know the menu by heart and families gathering for a hearty bowl, a few egg rolls, and some conversation.
Mama Kim’s serves excellent Cha Gio with a perfectly crisp wrapper and flavorful filling, along with outstanding pho, which features a rich, aromatic broth concealing tender beef and fresh herbs.
Wienerschnitzel

Hot dogs are Wienerschnitzel’s specialty. Steaming franks are handed out at the walk-up window of this casual American eatery (which also has many other locations across the country). The hot dogs—available with various toppings like chili, cheese, or Texas BBQ sauce—come with a side of quick service and some friendly banter from the staff.
While hot dogs are the main reason to come here, they also make good ice cream and floats if you want to have a varied spread of classic treats on the outdoor table.
Nederland Crawfish Stop

Authentic, well-priced crawfish joints are about as rare in Nederland as a quiet Saturday night. And while we sometimes lament our collective lives without spicy boils, fresh crabs, and drive-thru convenience—we’re also grateful Nederland Crawfish Stop exists. This is the perfect place to grab a bag of large, meaty crawfish or some flavorful crabs to bring home. If you’re unsure what to order, just go for the classic crawfish boil—it never disappoints.
Cali Kitchen

Nederland’s Thai spots can start blending together when you’ve tried as many as we have. But true to its reputation, this little kitchen right off the highway is the best Thai restaurant in town. What separates it from the rest is how well they balance the flavors in these extra aromatic dishes, giving each ingredient time to shine in the wok. We like the Pad Thai, which gets a healthy drizzle of tamarind sauce while it’s still sizzling on the burner.
They have a super clean dining area where you can eat inside, but these noodles taste just as good at home after a quick drive. The friendly restaurant has been a local favorite and employs a welcoming staff who make preparing our favorite Thai dishes in the area look effortless.
Touch Of Cajun Cafe

If you think authentic Cajun flavor can’t be found outside Louisiana, then you need to visit this spot in Nederland. It’s not only one of the best Cajun restaurants in Texas, but it will remind you of any of those cozy Louisiana roadside joints. It even has that welcoming small-town vibe. Except, the service here is impeccable and the prices are surprisingly great. They make outstanding Loaded Cajun Fries and BBQ Crabs that taste like the real thing.
But we love their Voodoo Egg Rolls the best, which are filled with a really tasty blend that can easily compete with the best versions you’d find in New Orleans.
Starbucks

Starbucks is 75% coffee shop and 25% workspace. This Nederland location serves consistently delicious coffee in generous cups and makes the best caramel crunch blended drinks we’ve had. Rich espresso is mixed with perfectly blended caramel crunch inside and on top, with extra cookies crumbled so generously, you could fashion a dessert platter out of it. After your productive business meeting moment, have some sweet pastries and a refill for the road.
Then, make your way to the ample seating portion of this place and settle in with your laptop at a table with plenty of outlets.
Hamburger Depot

Nederland newcomers might raise an eyebrow at a burger joint making this list. But Hamburger Depot is a classic Texas burger spot that’s been serving the community for years. If the staff wore more retro uniforms, you’d swear you’d stepped back into a simpler time. Burgers here hit that sweet spot between juicy and substantial, the onion rings are crispy and flavorful, and the fries are always hot.
Judices 1927

A parade of BBQ crabs occupies 80% of the tables at this Jefferson County restaurant. Take it as a sign to also order the crawfish. But before that, savor the complimentary bowl of warm chicken and sausage gumbo, which they always give you even if it’s not Mardi Gras. Aside from the exquisite BBQ crabs, the Cajun restaurant makes great boudin egg rolls, Beef Wellington with perfect pastry, and amazing bread pudding. It’s a place you can count on for a last-minute lunch or dinner.
Show up in your Saturday casuals and you’ll still be treated like family by the friendly waitstaff. Plus, the Judice name has been serving great food since 1927 in case you need a reminder that some legacies are worth preserving.
The Dude’s Foods

The Dude’s Foods sits in a stationary spot that feels like a neighborhood anchor. The Smashburger here is pressed so perfectly, it could slide into a vintage cassette case (note: this might ruin your mixtape). The burger comes with all the classic fixings and a sauce that hits just the right tangy notes. Straightforward, but absolutely satisfying.
They’ve built a reputation on consistency and heart, though sometimes the other menu items might rotate based on what’s fresh—so come ready for that signature burger. It’s the ideal comfort stop after running errands around Nederland or when you need a reliable meal that doesn’t disappoint.
Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers

Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers is not just the best option outside Nederland’s more formal dining spots. No, saying that would downplay how good Raising Cane’s is in its own right. They make solid versions of not only hot, fresh chicken fingers—but also crispy crinkle fries and outstanding lemonade. Like most fast-casual restaurants, this is a very lively spot with some indoor seating, but most people stick to quick, efficient service.
Nederland seafood house

There isn’t one specific seafood dish we recommend here because not only are they all good, but Nederland Seafood House is about enjoying classic, quality seafood in a welcoming family atmosphere. If you want fried shrimp, catfish, or a po-boy, go ahead, you seafood lover. There really isn’t a wrong occasion to grab a satisfying, well-prepared meal from Nederland Seafood House, except if you’re looking for fancy hush puppies because they might not be the highlight of your visit.
Buckstin Brewing Company Nederland
You’ll find Buckstin Brewing Company Nederland tucked away with plenty of parking in a relaxed setting. The brewery is a cozy and rustic spot with a welcoming, laid-back vibe. Buckstin Brewing Company Nederland offers a delightful dining experience with standout appetizers and unique pizzas. They have appetizers like Parmesan cheese curds, shiitake mushroom pot stickers, and crab puff in a trio.
But you’ll still find pretty classic brewery fare here too, like the Cheese Burger Pizza on cauliflower crust that tastes like a Big Mac. That, along with a vanilla cream ale, is our go-to order here.
Novrozsky’s – Nederland

Even though Novrozsky’s got a recent update to its clean and comfortable space, it still feels like the heart of Nederland on a busy lunch hour. Food is only part of the reason why hungry locals, out-of-towners, and regulars brave the crowd. Novrozsky’s is the most satisfying restaurant in Nederland, and the most Nederland restaurant in Nederland. The chicken fried steak isn’t quite worth a wait time of forty-five minutes when the gravy’s consistency can vary, so avoid the peak rush.
Instead, come on a weekday afternoon when the service is friendly and helpful, there’s no wait time, and everyone digs into enormous portions like they’re preparing for a food marathon.
