Sure, Reston has its predictable chain steakhouses and corporate cafeterias that fuel the daily grind. But it’s the hidden Vietnamese pho shop tucked behind a strip mall, the family-run Ethiopian gem where injera arrives still warm, and the chef-driven tasting menu that turns commuters into regulars. From Town Center power lunches to Lake Anne date nights, these are Reston’s essential tables.
Ariake Japanese Restaurant – Reston Location
$$ | (703) 391-9006 | WEBSITE

Run by a dedicated team, Ariake is the go-to for hungry families after a long week. A line out the door forms on Friday nights when reservations aren’t allowed, but that doesn’t slow down service—the attentive staff are constantly bouncing between seating guests, delivering fresh sushi, and refilling miso soup. If sushi alone doesn’t seal the deal, there are also flavorful bento boxes, plus fried banana tempura, to round out the meal.
Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar
$$ | (703) 407-4010 | WEBSITE

From the same team behind some of Reston’s favorite spots, Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar brings the vibrant tastes of Peru to a suburb more accustomed to chain steakhouses and fast-casual salads. In the evening, the dining room is typically almost entirely filled with groups celebrating and friends catching up over cocktails.
Skip the lighter appetizers unless you’re just stopping by for a quick bite and a Pisco Sour at the bar, and instead, jump right into ordering a few ceviches (we like the Mixto, which is exceptional) and the saltados. The waitstaff, including Oscar, Hali, and Katherine, are very helpful and polite, making the experience special.
The atmosphere is clean and original, with a warm, inviting vibe that makes you want to linger over another round of their delicious drinks, like the signature Pinazo or the standout BomBom coffee for dessert. Highly recommended for a fantastic dining experience that blows expectations out of the water with its generous portions and outstanding food.
De Clieu Coffee & Sandwich – Reston
$ | (703) 951-0088 | WEBSITE

De Clieu Coffee & Sandwich is a staple among Reston locals due to the three Cs: coffee, comfort, and convenience. They do right by the classic BLT and eggplant embers sandwich, plus standout baked goods like the blueberry banana muffin and Italian cold cut sandwich. Even though De Clieu is inconspicuously tucked into a neighborhood strip, you’re bound to run into at least two familiar faces—especially if you’re attempting to try every pastry before the end of the workweek.
Cafe Montmartre
$$ | (703) 904-8080 | WEBSITE

From the Reston dining scene, Cafe Montmartre is a sit-down, French bistro-style restaurant with views of the lake that attracts diners from all over Northern Virginia. To start, it’s essential to order one, if not more, of the snails. The traditional version with mushroom sauce for dipping bread resembles the classic preparation, but our preference leans toward the mussels moulinaire with linguini, which has all the comfort and familiarity of eating seafood pasta by the water.
End with the Paté sandwich—either as a lunch option or shared appetizer—as you recount your afternoon enjoying the patio’s outdoor seating.
Not Your Average Joe’s – Reston
$$ | (571) 234-8200 | WEBSITE

Not Your Average Joe’s is Reston Town Center’s go-to spot for a lively meal. The name of the game here is variety—there’s a whole menu dedicated to everything from burgers to poke bowls. Before you place your order, you’ll want to know if you’re in the mood for the rich lobster roll, the crispy Bang Bang shrimp, or the particularly good Cobb salad. We’ll make it easy for you: Stick to their specialty of the New England Lobster Roll with a side of clam chowder.
No substitutions, no extra sauces, and no fuss. Whenever you’re in need of a solid meal with friends, skip the usual chain restaurants and just head straight here.
SAAO THAI & SUSHI
$$ | (571) 526-4114 | WEBSITE

Saao Thai & Sushi opened in Reston, after the owners saw an opportunity to blend Thai authenticity with Japanese precision. What started as a neighborhood spot for fresh sushi and comforting curries has since become a serene, immersive experience where you can admire intricate wood carvings, listen to the gentle sound of running water, and chat with servers who remember your favorite roll.
Though it’s hard to pick just one dish from the extensive menu, we always lean towards the soft shell crab with SAAO curry sauce, the Salmon Flambé Rolls, or the Drunken Udon Noodles with Seafood. For the full effect, add a side of Pad Thai with Shrimp and grab a seat near the lush plants for a truly relaxing meal.
Jersey Mike’s Subs
$ | (571) 313-8910 | WEBSITE

For office workers grabbing lunch between meetings, families needing a quick dinner solution, and sports teams fueling up after practice, having a restaurant that’s consistently excellent is both a Reston staple and a reliable choice. Jersey Mike’s Subs has been serving this diverse crowd of customers for years, and its spotless dining area and efficient service prove it.
The menu is a satisfying collection of hot and cold sandwich classics, and no visit is complete without trying the Italian sub or Chipotle chicken steak. Real regulars know these subs made with perfectly cooked, crispy bacon as the only answer for sandwich cravings, with the friendly, attentive staff always ready to make recommendations that accentuate the great offerings.
Morton’s The Steakhouse
$$$$ | (703) 796-0128 | WEBSITE

Morton’s The Steakhouse has perfected it all: a classic steakhouse menu, a warm inviting atmosphere, and finally, a premier dining experience in Reston. The menu proves there’s power in protein—and a little bit of jazz—with the filet mignon, which’ll make you forget you’re actually eating anything less than superb.
After going to town on Reston’s best steak, head on over to Morton’s celebratory tables, where there’s a rotating schedule of personalized menus, sprinkled confetti, and complimentary desserts like the decadent Molten Lava cake.
MOD Pizza
$ | (703) 674-3599 | WEBSITE

Reston residents know MOD Pizza as the customizable pizza spot, but regulars and delivery app users know it as the place for unlimited toppings and crispy crusts. Late evenings sometimes bring a tired staff that can leave customers feeling unwelcome, but most visits have a feeling of reliable consistency—friendly employees, generous toppings, and hot pizzas delivered through Doordash.
But no matter how busy it gets, it’s almost impossible to ever pay unreasonable prices, something that’s both refreshing and practical in the Reston dining scene.
Hunan Heritage
$ | (703) 941-5808 | WEBSITE

On any given night at Hunan Heritage, you’ll spot families sharing massive platters, college students stretching their budgets, and office workers grabbing takeout after a long day. One of the few Chinese spots in Reston to offer such generous portions at these prices, Hunan Heritage’s classic dishes are, dare we say, a few steps up from your typical takeout joint. The best part about each meal is the value—consistent and perfect for feeding a crowd without breaking the bank.
Two of our favorites: the tangy orange chicken with crispy batter, and the savory shrimp Hunan with just the right kick of spice. It takes a pretty good restaurant to get people to order $15 entrees on a regular basis when cheaper options abound, so take that as a sign of merit.
Crafthouse Reston
$$ | (571) 926-9931 | WEBSITE

Crafthouse Reston is a craft beer haven with both the best burgers and fried wings in Reston. When it opened, the team built a menu out of American pub classics, and then began to introduce local brews into the lineup. It’s since become a happy hour ritual for everyone from Reston newcomers to regulars, their tables packed with nachos and mambo sauce wings. Forget about trying to get a seat at the bar when it’s slammed, and come by for dessert instead—the churros are worth the wait.
Barcelona Wine Bar
$$ | (703) 689-0700 | WEBSITE

Barcelona Wine Bar, situated in Reston, offers a prime dining experience with Spanish and Mediterranean tapas. They serve consistently good food with friendly staff, but what many diners might overlook is their exceptional wine exploration program.
The Patatas Bravas and Spiced Beef Empanadas are straightforward crowd-pleasers, but if you’re feeling more adventurous, build your own meat and cheese board and sample wines by the 3oz pour—the croquetas with a crisp white or the hanger steak with a bold red are our favorite combinations. They also feature seasonal specials like the jamón mangalica, which showcases their commitment to quality ingredients.
Kusshi Reston
$$ | (571) 777-1992 | WEBSITE

The essentials for a great Reston evening are a stroll through the town center, a show at the local theater, and a post-show sushi feast. Kusshi Reston has been serving up fresh fish and creative cocktails since opening, but the seared fatty salmon and Wagyu fried rice put it on the map when regulars declared them as their favorite dishes—before they went all in on the Taro Bliss.
There are a few cozy tables for immediate indulgence and discussing the night’s entertainment, but the sushi also travels well for gatherings at home.
Gregorio’s Trattoria
$$ | (703) 689-4894 | WEBSITE

One thing Reston has that no other Virginia suburb does: an Italian trattoria that also serves New York-style pizza. Still serving Negronis out of classic glassware and hand-making their mozzarella sticks, Gregorio’s commitment to authenticity has become celebrated in Reston. They’re open for dinner nightly from 5pm-10pm, their pizza slices are consistently huge and foldable, and the only seating is at cozy wooden tables inside.
But regular customers still flock on weekends to get the first serving of their dangerously delicious chicken Parmesan. A culinary revelation to some and a nostalgic indulgence to others, dipping a torn-off piece of your pizza crust into a plate of rich marinara sauce captures the comforting essence of Italian-American dining.
Shake Shack Reston
$ | (571) 640-8702 | WEBSITE

A fast-casual chain with a focus on burgers, fries, and shakes might make this spot seem a little basic on the surface. But once you’re there, you’ll get why people line up for a quick lunch, family dinner, or post-shopping treat at Shake Shack. Everything here feels especially satisfying: crispy-edged Angus smash burgers, friendly staff, and options that elevate the classic burger experience.
On my visit, I loved the ‘Shroom Burger with its crispy-fried portobello and ShackSauce and the golden onion rings that perfectly rounded out the meal.
The Honey Baked Ham Company
$$$ | (703) 733-3860 | WEBSITE

The Honey Baked Ham Company has carved out its niche in Reston with this straightforward, family-friendly ham-and-sides operation. It’s a safe bet that the holiday packages like the Thanksgiving turkey are going to be solid, but prioritize the classic honey-baked ham, the signature sandwiches on ciabatta, and some of the best mac and cheese in Northern Virginia.
Our perfect order contains the essentials: a classic ham sandwich, a side of that creamy mac and cheese for later, a Coke Zero to wash it down, and maybe some potato salad if you’re feeling indulgent.
Robeks Fresh Juices & Smoothies
$ | (703) 787-7755 | WEBSITE

Originally a quick-service spot near T-Mobile with ample parking, Robeks Fresh Juices & Smoothies has become a reliable destination for health-conscious locals. The restaurant’s bright, modern interior has attracted a diverse crowd of busy professionals, parents with kids, and fitness enthusiasts, but it’s also perfect for anyone needing a refreshing pick-me-up. Customers still grab their smoothies on the go and appreciate the loyalty program—a smart feature that makes regular visits worthwhile.
The menu contains a variety of both low-calorie and protein-packed options, but Robeks is primarily a smoothie spot. Refreshing and satisfying, the acai smoothies are a must, accompanied by any choice containing hummus toast for a quick snack.
My Cafe Reston
$ | (571) 752-0473 | WEBSITE

My Cafe Reston does two things and two things well: paninis and convenience. The recently reopened local spot makes eggplant and portabella mushroom paninis that are packed with chipotle mayo that adds an extra flavorful kick to your classic sandwich. Pair it with a vegetarian option or meat panini (if you want to turn lunch into a treat, add extra sauce).
Grabbing a seat at one of the clean indoor tables or outdoor options is a great way to spend a quick midday break, but a meal here is satisfyingly fit for any time of the day, especially after a morning of errands and coffee runs around Reston.
Pitango Gelato & Coffee, Reston Town Center
$$ | (703) 606-9906 | WEBSITE

Pitango has evolved from just a gelato spot into a true community gathering place with exceptional coffee and desserts. The manager is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, often sharing opinions and even making some of the ice cream himself. For an afternoon treat, settle in with a book, an affogato, and some of their outstanding cold brew coffee with its perfect acidity. By evening, take your gelato to their immaculately clean dining room and enjoy the calm atmosphere.
While portion sizes may be small and prices are on the higher side, the quality is absolutely worth it. Pitango also maintains consistently outstanding service that makes every visit feel special.
Buffalo Wing Factory
$ | (703) 390-9015 | WEBSITE

The Buffalo Wing Factory is a sports bar that’s home to a variety of wing sauces, including a spicy buffalo option, on a bustling corner in Reston. Unless you’re particularly interested in watching every single game, spend your afternoon elsewhere before heading to the Factory for wings, curly fries, and the opportunity to catch up with friends over happy hour.
Most make the trip here to brag about ordering the $25 all-you-can-eat wing special, but the dry rub Caribbean wings with a side of green goddess salad is the underrated highlight. If you’re not lucky enough to snag it before the kitchen gets backed up, the bulgolgi sauce wings with pineapple mule mocktails is a solid plan B.
