Cowgirl Kitchen Market & Cafe
$ | (850) 231-1120 | WEBSITE

Cowgirl Kitchen Market & Cafe is home to some of our favorite breakfast burritos in Santa Rosa Beach. The chicken salad sandwich is fresh, and the wings are spicy, but this blend of hearty comfort with a fun, quirky vibe bridges a gap we didn’t know the area needed. There are a couple of drink options to mix things up including the excellent 30a white bubbles on special occasions.
Show up for breakfast to get the breakfast burritos, or show up any day they’re open for excellent lunch, dinner, and that welcoming family-owned atmosphere.
Macho Taco Cantina
$ | (850) 660-2172 | WEBSITE

Serving as both family-friendly cantina and celebration spot, Macho Taco Cantina plays multiple roles, and it plays them beautifully. There are some truly memorable dishes—including the macho burrito packed with rice, beans, and marinated chicken—but our standout here is the brisket. It’s smoked for fourteen hours and seasoned perfectly, sliced just thick enough to keep each mouthful tender without becoming dry.
After you indulge in one too many tacos, finish with the house margarita and take home some excellent chips and salsa for later.
Down Island Gulf Seafood Restaurant
$$$ | (850) 777-3385 | WEBSITE

The straightforward menu at Down Island Gulf Seafood Restaurant features a handful of fresh seafood options, all prepared with homemade care. And when the seafood is as consistently excellent as Down Island’s, straightforward is just right. We love to order the Fish of the Day here—it comes in a Cioppino-style preparation that provides a rich and savory balance to the tender, flaky catch—and complement it with their classic Cioppino stew.
This is also one of the better spots in Santa Rosa Beach to enjoy live music outside of a dedicated concert venue, especially on Friday nights. Down Island is also home to our favorite laid-back, artsy dining atmosphere in town.
WaterColor Beach Club
$$$ | (850) 534-5000 | WEBSITE

A lot of people will tell you to head to the main beachfront for the classic Florida seafood experience. And while you can get great versions of it—with or without ocean views—we’re here for the beach bar. The food packs a delicate flavor, with fresh, tender ingredients, and the casual atmosphere serves as the perfect contrast to the upscale surroundings holding it all together.
Top it with a bit of sweet poolside service and some friendly, professional staff, and you’ve got one of the best beach clubs in town.
Barefoot’s Beachside Bar & Grill
$$ | (850) 267-9500 | WEBSITE

Barefoot’s Beachside Bar & Grill specializes in beachfront dining, featuring a gorgeous view and decent food. The grouper is a highlight, with large white flakes, and the fries are plentiful. The food is always yum and delicious, and the drinks are top notch and nice and strong. Ask five friends what their favorite part is and you’ll end up with five different answers, but the grouper and strong cocktails are our favorites, along with the friendly service.
The experience is complete enough that you can enjoy it all if you’re up for it. Just grab a seat by the pool then get ready to enjoy an excellent beachside meal. And as much as we love the food they serve here, it’s worth trying a drink on the higher side as well—the atmosphere does a great job of balancing out all the fun.
Growler Garage
$ | (850) 660-1965 | WEBSITE

Growler Garage is a relaxed spot located in Santa Rosa Beach, with a wide selection of beers, including over 40 options on tap. Customers can choose a pint or a flight to sample the excellent choices, especially with the outdoor seating that provides a nice vibe during live music on weekends. We’re especially partial to the unique art and paint work on surfboards and motorcycles here that add to its charm, making it a perfect place to unwind in a fun, casual environment.
The friendly staff and open-air setting make everyone feel welcome, cementing it as a popular destination for beer enthusiasts and visitors alike.
Frost Bites
$ | (252) 822-4262 | WEBSITE

Waiting in lines for a sweet treat is basically a sport in Santa Rosa Beach. There’s often a very good reason for the line—and at Frost Bites it’s the fantastic shaved ice. Like moths to a light, people are powerless to the cookies and cream flavor (the default version is paired with vanilla frozen custard, which is pretty unique to this place) and the rich, flavorful syrup.
You’ll see crowds waiting patiently for their orders while a parade of bass-thumping pick-up trucks adds to the fun along the seaside.
Seagrove Village Market
$ | (850) 231-5736 | WEBSITE

Unless you’ve been to Seagrove Village Market—or have your own grandmother with a family recipe for excellent grouper and hush puppies—there’s a good chance you haven’t had a fish platter quite like their blackened grouper. Here, perfectly seasoned and seared grouper gets served with creamy mac & cheese, crispy fries, and fluffy hush puppies. Unlike its more popular fried counterpart, this is a lighter preparation.
But after a few of those savory and flaky bites, you’ll forget fried fish ever existed.
Johnny McTighe’s Irish Pub
$ | (850) 267-0101 | WEBSITE

Johnny McTighe’s Irish Pub in Santa Rosa Beach makes some of our favorite New York-style pizza in town, and they’ve been a neighborhood staple for years. The cozy spot serves some of our favorite fish and chips in the area. Cooked to golden perfection, the fish is flaky, crispy, and tender and it’s served with either classic fries or coleslaw and topped with an expert combination of tartar sauce, lemon wedges, and malt vinegar.
Every once in a while they do smoked tuna dip as a special, and you should very much get it.
Thai Elephant Authentic Thai Cuisine
$ | (850) 660-6711 | WEBSITE

Thai Elephant is one of Santa Rosa Beach’s favorite spots for authentic Thai food, and their convenient location with ample parking makes them perfect for a family-friendly meal after a long day exploring the area, without sacrificing on flavor. Regardless of the time of day, Thai Elephant has made a name for themselves by offering a pretty extensive menu of Thai classics, and doing them all well.
There are a lot of solid options here, but you should definitely make the Chicken Pad Thai, Crab Rangoons, and red curry a part of your order.
Angelina’s Pizzeria & Pasta
$ | (850) 231-2500 | WEBSITE

Angelina’s Pizzeria & Pasta has become a reliable spot for a solid meal, and more often than not you’ll find the tables filled because yes, the pizza is that satisfying (as is the actually flavorful lemon shrimp). The Caesar salad might not win any awards, but it’s consistent, dependable, and very affordable.
We’re most impressed with their dedication to the many varieties of Italian classics, including a textbook hand-tossed pizza and the lemon shrimp pasta—a combination that brings together crispy crust, generous portions, and bright flavors, all into a textural and satisfying triumph.
Cava and Cakes
$ | (850) 931-2253 | WEBSITE

Cava and Cakes might best be known for their moist cupcakes and their very delightful whipped frosting with fruit, a mainstay of their offerings. What sets Cava and Cakes even further apart is that a lot of the treats lean whimsical and sometimes even family-friendly. A lot of joy gets coaxed out of celebrations here—we’re especially big fans of the stunning birthday cake for a daughter’s 17th birthday, as well as the special cupcakes for celebrations that’s almost too beautiful to eat. Almost.
Papa Surf Burger Bar
$$ | (850) 278-6440 | WEBSITE

Everybody likes to think that the little burger joint down the street from their house makes the best patties in town. But those visiting Santa Rosa Beach might have a legitimate claim. The burgers at Papa Surf Burger Bar are straightforward but carried out with the cheerful expertise of a team that clearly loves what they do.
The kitchen manages to turn out juicy, fresh creations even when the place is packed, and the sweet potato waffle fries that come alongside might be the best side in Florida. And the laid-back atmosphere holding it all together arrives still buzzing from the live music and patio chatter.
Bud & Alley’s Waterfront Restaurant & Bar
$$$ | (850) 231-5900 | WEBSITE

The classic and best way to experience the waterfront at Bud & Alley’s here is at sunset, and you’ll get a mix of the stunning views—the Gulf of Mexico, the Seaside rooftops, the changing sky—all unfolding in real time. Or you can visit whenever you want: for breakfast, happy hour, or a full dinner. A typical happy hour order comes with a dozen large shrimp, a couple of craft cocktails, the flaky fish sticks appetizer, and that unbeatable deck view.
There’s just one Bud & Alley’s location in Seaside: a spacious, welcoming affair right on the water with a rooftop bar, and a main dining area that has a full kitchen (with that praised breakfast) and a loyal local following. The restaurant has also supported educational outreach programs for a decade now.
Coastside 30A
$$ | (850) 213-0532 | WEBSITE

We really appreciate when a spot masters one signature offering, and at Coastside 30A, the frose is the undisputed star. The slushy rosé blend is perfectly balanced and refreshingly crisp, and truly shines with the subtle sweetness of ripe strawberries and a hint of citrus. Drinks are the focus here, and they’re served in chilled glasses with colorful garnishes. You can also enjoy the frose alongside local craft beers, a nice Sauvignon Blanc, and other wine selections.
Whatever you pair it with, you’ll want to take in the cozy outdoor seating with live music and games that adds a lively and very relaxed vibe to each visit. It’s located in Santa Rosa Beach, next to Old Florida Fishhouse.
Wild Bill’s Beach Dogs
$ | (850) 231-0802 | WEBSITE

Walking up to Wild Bill’s Beach Dogs in Seaside feels like stepping into a classic beachside treat. The stand is nestled in a simple wooden structure with bright blue trim, with a giant hot dog sign spinning next to a handful of weathered picnic tables. All around, there’s the sound of the ocean while people line up for the self-serve condiment bar. The hot dogs are grilled to perfection and served directly onto soft, steamed buns.
Show up from 11am-7pm on weekends when they’re running their special combo deals.
Roux 30A
$$$$ | (850) 213-0899 | WEBSITE

Roux 30A sits along the scenic 30A corridor in Santa Rosa Beach, but even if you have no plans to stroll the sugar-white sands, it’s worth a reservation. Order the tasting menu or by the course, then watch as the chef in the open kitchen prepares unique and flavorful dishes like venison and trigger fish. Each plate is crafted with ingredients from local farmers, and the chef discusses the details of each course before serving.
It’s presented with generous wine pairings that expertly complement the flavors for a personalized experience that makes each visit memorable.
The Caf
$ | (850) 660-1975 | WEBSITE

As the old saying goes: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” This is the philosophy at The Caf, where they focus on perfecting their breakfast biscuits with crispy bacon and homemade flavor that are simply not to be missed. They come served fresh and affordable, and they’re delicious. If you’re the indecisive type, the only choice you’ll have to make is if you’ll be ordering one, two, or three, followed by whether or not you’ll be braving the line out the door.
Farm & Fire
$$ | (850) 789-6312 | WEBSITE

On the water in Santa Rosa Beach, Farm & Fire is a lively restaurant that opens early and stays busy all day. It offers both indoor and outdoor dining, and there’s almost always a crowd. All the classic cravings are covered here, but the grouper with fingerling potatoes and sautéed green beans is the reason to keep coming back. Cooked to perfection, the grouper gets seared crisp, served hot to order, and packed with layers upon layers of flavor.
The portions are generous and served with artichoke dressing—there’s also a selection of cocktails and whiskey. Grab a seat on the beautiful terrace overlooking the bay after making it through the inevitable wait (the fabulous staff handles it with ease).
Old Florida Fish House
$$ | (850) 534-3045 | WEBSITE

Old Florida Fish House in Santa Rosa Beach serves classic coastal seafood, something of a staple along the Gulf. Get the very good grouper, which arrives perfectly seared with a crisp exterior and flaky interior, accompanied by seasonal vegetables and a lemon-butter sauce. The key lime pie is so divine you’ll want to savor every creamy, tart bite on its own. We’re also fans of their attentive service, with Stormie ensuring a smooth, pleasant experience from start to finish.
