You’d like a reliable meal that feels like a treat, but you don’t want to break the bank or deal with fussy service. Head to Testo’s in Stratford, a consistent-quality hotspot that has a horseshoe-shaped bar with televisions, but is usually fairly accommodating. It’s a frequent hang out, and we’re a fan of their earlybird specials from 3 to 6 PM. The twin lobster special for $24 is an absolute winner, and the pork chop with onions and mushrooms is fantastic and tender.
Drink specials like $10 martinis make it even better.

We usually hesitate to make sweeping claims, but Ola in Stratford serves the most impressive salmon special in the area. It’s the type of restaurant that puts genuine thought into their dishes—they’ll even prepare your guava ribs with such tenderness that the meat practically slides off the bone at the slightest touch (this has definitely not occurred at our table).
There’s consistently a warm hum of conversation throughout the dining room, but it’s never so loud that you’ll struggle to enjoy your meal. And if the evening calls for it, the soft lighting and beautifully presented plates give the whole space an inviting, photogenic atmosphere.
Acapulcos Mexican Family Restaurant & Cantina

Maybe tacos aren’t your thing. Acapulco’s is the cantina where bland isn’t cool enough to hang, and we’re OK with that. Get a personal basket of chips and salsa, or a glass of jalapeño margarita (a.k.a. fire extinguisher in liquid form). There are a lot of seats, steak fajitas, and if you can’t go one meal without some form of rice and beans coursing through you, their carnitas are robust.

This used to be a classic roadside burger joint with a different special every week. Now, it’s just another Cricket Car Hop. Welcome to Stratford, we guess. But the charm remains—it’s a nostalgic drive-thru spot that comes in handy for grabbing a quick bite while watching (and listening) to the friendly chatter from the cozy bar area with window seating.
If you get hungry while cruising around town, try the unique Longburger, a burger on a hot dog bun, or count all the vintage cars you see parked outside.

Grab the Mexican corn dip, and it’s dangerously easy to linger for hours—just note that the lobster nachos are so popular they sometimes sell out early.

The food is consistently better than your previous go-to place, though the General Tso’s chicken sauce could use more spice. Not to mention that you could also enjoy standout dishes like the roast pork, pork fried rice, and crispy egg rolls. Your typical fast-food joint definitely doesn’t have that.
The best part is that if you want a pleasant experience, there’s friendly service and a clean atmosphere just inside the door.

Despite a limited menu, this cozy Stratford spot covers the classic ice cream trinity: creamy scoops, signature cakes, and thick shakes—making it a great stop when a steady flow of sweet treats is needed. There’s friendly service, a wide array of flavors and toppings to choose from, and relatively reasonable prices, despite tough competition from a nearby Dairy Queen.
The small location may have limited seating and can get warm inside, but if you’re looking for classic ice cream goodness, Carvel is the place to be.
