A great sushi bar is like a perfectly aged barrel of sake. It’s familiar yet surprising, with character that deepens over time. In Kelowna, these aren’t just places to eat raw fish—they’re destinations where tradition meets innovation, where the view of Okanagan Lake competes with the artistry on your plate. From minimalist omakase counters to lively izakayas, these spots prove that Kelowna’s sushi scene could only thrive right here.
Yama Kitchen
$ | (250) 762-6266 | WEBSITE

Whenever Kelowna and sushi appear in the same sentence, Yama Kitchen is guaranteed to be part of the conversation. This hidden gem with its casual atmosphere and limited seating has impressed even non-coastal diners with thick, cold sashimi since it first opened years ago and has famously kept its quality consistent ever since.
Whether it’s your first or 50th visit, or you’re craving lunch or dinner, the v5 roll is our favorite place to start: generous pieces of beautifully presented sushi with fresh ingredients plus light, crunchy tempura begging to be dipped in soy sauce and paired with a refreshing sunomono salad.
Kaya Sushi + Grill
$$ | (778) 753-7090 | WEBSITE

Kaya Sushi + Grill has been around since before Kelowna was the land of university students and airport travelers rushing for quick meals. This traditional sushi spot is an oasis of calm in a convenient location where you can sit peacefully at a table while the kitchen prepares authentic broth without pressure cookers or packet soups. Kaya serves excellent mixed tempura and chewy Cali rolls, but the specialty here is undoubtedly the Bara Chirashi bowl.
The portions are generous, the service is quick and friendly, and you’ll leave with a renewed appreciation for the power of blueberry mayo paired with fruit rolls.
OKA Japanese Restaurant
$ | (250) 869-1564 | WEBSITE

We don’t always recommend eating sushi in a shopping district, but when we do, it’s at OKA Japanese Restaurant. This inviting spot is a local favorite serving Japanese classics that reflect Kelowna’s appreciation for quality: crispy tempura, expertly rolled sushi, praised chicken karaage, and a four-course combination meal for two that’s a steal at around $50.
The food is satisfying and well-prepared, and you can browse nearby stores after, but what makes this place a gem are the thoughtful touches: always-hot green tea, family-friendly atmosphere, and vegetarian options like tofu that they thoughtfully include on the menu.
Komo Sushi
$ | (778) 478-3268 | WEBSITE

Lunch hour at this modern Japanese-Korean spot in Kelowna is a scene of quiet efficiency. Solo diners with laptops and groups of friends point at colorful rolls and steaming udon bowls behind the counter. Tea is served in delicate ceramic cups. And, yes, there are minimalist bamboo accents everywhere. With its combination of reasonable prices, consistently fresh fish, and a only-in-Kelowna brand of warmth that could only exist here, it’s no wonder this place has become a local favorite.
Be sure to save room for the perfectly balanced Gomae salad or a slice of creamy avocado roll (a.k.a. perfection).
Saisaki Japanese Restaurant
$ | (778) 753-6801 | WEBSITE

The family-run Saisaki Japanese Restaurant might technically be one of many sushi spots in Kelowna, but it’s this quiet, comforting space that functions as the neighborhood favorite—and arguably the city’s most welcoming Japanese dining experience. The clean, kid-friendly dining room is a relaxing retreat almost any night, and the exceptional agadashi tofu, tonkotsu ramen, and spicy salmon roll can satisfy diners of any appetite.
Even if you’re not coming for a special occasion, expect to end up smiling while the kind owner remembers your usual order or recommends a great vegetarian option.
Kasai Teppanyaki Steak & Sushi House
$$$ | (250) 899-9900 | WEBSITE

Legend has it that Kelowna’s best sushi bars are scattered across the city. While we can’t prove that, we can prove that this teppanyaki and sushi spot in the Okanagan is one of the most entertaining dining experiences around, having consistently delighted guests with its lively atmosphere. On weekends or during celebrations, you’ll want to book ahead for one of their expertly cooked Wagyu steaks that melt in your mouth, served alongside huge portions of thoughtfully sauced dishes.
We always order the teppanyaki dinner, which comes with fun elements like catching tossed broccoli, making the meal stick in your memory even after the last bite (ordering the praised tofu dish for variety is non-negotiable).
Koi Sushi

Editor’s Note: The sushi platter from Koi Sushi is currently the talk of the town, but the restaurant’s lunch specials are what keep locals coming back. The crab rolls feature the most generous serving of crab ever, making them worth the trip alone. We tried the combo lunch, which included those standout crab rolls, and found every bite to be as memorable as that initial potluck discovery. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for a casual lunch with friends.
While the space is modest, the flavors are anything but—each piece of sushi is crafted with care, and the service is friendly and efficient. If you’re in Kelowna and craving sushi, Koi Sushi should be at the top of your list, just as it was for us after that fateful potluck.
Kaede Sushi
$$ | (250) 868-8852 | WEBSITE

If you’ve ever tasted that perfect balance of crispy and tender in a chicken katsu, thank Kaede Sushi. When it opened in Kelowna, this hidden gem with its open kitchen atmosphere changed how locals thought about Japanese food in the city, making it a destination spot in the process. It might no longer be as groundbreaking as it was when the unagi rice bowl first blew minds, but Kaede Sushi is cruising well into its established reputation.
The welcoming space feels like a neighborhood favorite and the food is still exceptional. There’ll be some nice specials on the menu, but make sure to order the perennial hits like the spider roll and that pure magic of Puri Puri Ebi Mayo.
West Sakura Teriyaki Restaurant
$$ | (778) 755-5665 | WEBSITE

You can’t talk about sushi in Kelowna without mentioning West Sakura Teriyaki, and for good reason—this modern spot deserves credit for bringing top-tier rolls to the masses (their Superman roll is literally heroic). But the Superman aside, West Sakura is where you go to eat fresh veggie tempura, generous bento boxes, and beautifully presented sushi with top-quality ingredients.
Dinner here is always pleasant: there’s fast and friendly service even during take-out, genuinely sweet staff who give you space during payment, and a clean, comfortable dining space with air conditioning. West Sakura works for quick lunches, satisfying dinners, or any time you’re in the mood for the owner’s personal touch—maybe even a shot of sake.
Sushi Sai

Sushi Sai is a sushi bar in Kelowna that could easily be mistaken for just another casual spot, but make no mistake, the quality on display is very real. This compact restaurant offers a wide range of sushi rolls, including the popular avocado and mango rolls, which are both delicious and generously portioned.
They’re a satisfying, well-priced meal that delivers exactly what you want while exploring the local dining scene, but they’re also something else—a beloved symbol of Kelowna’s sushi culture and its appreciation for beautiful presentation and friendly service.
Momo Sushi Downtown
$$ | (250) 763-1030 | WEBSITE

Unlike other sushi spots where much of the appeal comes from waiting 45 minutes for a table that overlooks the water, Momo Sushi Downtown is a restaurant still very much in its prime. Without fail, Momo Sushi will place you in the crossfire of several rounds of miso soups, secret recommendations from the friendly staff, and specialty rolls like the Ogopogo served on simple wooden tables.
You’ll chat with someone wearing a cozy sweater at the counter, squeeze your entire group into a warm booth, and lose track of how many fresh sashimi boxes walk past. No, Momo Sushi Downtown is not serving the most refined Japanese food in town. It doesn’t matter.
Kimbap & Sushi
$$ | (778) 478-0843 | WEBSITE

The combination of rice, seaweed, and fresh fish is a simple thing—but somehow this cozy spot in Kelowna takes that trifecta to a whole other level. Kimbap & Sushi is a family-owned Asian fusion staple with a loyal fan base that spans from traditional sushi lovers to the vegan crowd.
They serve a variety of Korean and Japanese classics like Korean fried chicken and glass noodles, but most everyone hones in on their purist’s sashimi, featuring cuts that are gloriously fresh and melt against the palate like butter. Always get the pork bone soup.
Mizu Japanese Restaurant sushi
$ | (250) 862-8022 | WEBSITE

Mizu Japanese Restaurant is a beloved sushi spot in Kelowna that smells like fresh fish and looks like it hasn’t changed much since it first opened over 20 years ago. Fresh, expertly prepared, and presented with care, their standout house special roll is our favorite in the Okanagan. They’ll also serve you miso soup that warms you up, appetizers that refresh you, or a generous platter of sushi for dinner.
But whether you keep it simple with classic rolls or go all out with their beautifully crafted creations, the food at Mizu makes sushi at other places taste like it’s missing something.
Aomi Sushi Japanese Restaurant
$$ | (250) 764-0021 | WEBSITE

Aomi Sushi isn’t a temple, but walking into this Japanese spot does feel like discovering a cherished neighborhood gem (motto: Authenticity Always). The staff wears traditional aprons as they prepare sushi and ladle bowls of beef pho. There’s some bamboo decor on display, dark wood tables in the dining area, and a general coziness that’s impossible to manufacture.
The tempura shrimp and teriyaki chicken are reliable favorites, but the required order is the delicious, if demanding, Beef Pho, with its rich, savory broth that simmers for six hours. It’s a true Kelowna original, and you won’t find another bowl in town quite like it.
