There is no more welcoming spot in Katy than Dos Tacos. Unlike its also friendly but sometimes impersonal chain counterparts, this small business is genuine, warm-hearted, and authentic. Dos Tacos is definitely my favorite of the bunch. This local gem has been serving full-of-flavor tacos long before you could say “volcan tacos please.” A taco de lengua will sort you right out. If it doesn’t, owner Omar and his team certainly will.
AT Donuts

AT Donuts is a cozy, delicious, and kind of hidden gem bakery spot in Katy. It’s also somewhere you can sit in comfortable silence opposite a friend, or on your own, and demolish a couple of breakfast tacos and a gooey kolache. Everything is wonderfully fresh with coffee flavors or breakfast biscuits, and the donuts—fresh and tasty—are the pick of the bunch. Just know that on mornings there are quite a few other bleary souls with the same great idea.
So order greedily and don’t forget that extra kolache.

A rain-or-shine Katy taqueria that is more revered than the strip mall it sits in the shadow of, Taqueria “Rafita” is a taco spot with a difference. Quality is never replaced by speed here, and that signature fresh salsa is never replaced by a sad squeeze of lime. No disrespect to the chains, but this is truly tacos done right. Whether it’s loaded with cabeza, lengua, or barbacoa, propped up on a budget $1 corn tortilla, or coated in that perfect salsa, this is a lunchtime cure for the ages.

That’s our kind of retreat. Liana’s is usually where we find this comfort, and they’ve got a wonderful patio for it too.
The Tex-Mex spot in Cinco Ranch is a comfortable, mid-range affair that’s full of generous portions and (most importantly) no lingering food smell when you leave.

The gas station taco stand in Katy has a steady flow of regulars that feels familiar rather than chaotic, and its breakfast tacos work in the same way. Grab a refreshing chamoy icee, tear into some chorizo and egg wrapped in fresh tortillas, and scoop away at that spicy green salsa.

The taco truck in Katy is home to certified Proper Tacos. There’s none of that soggy tortilla or bland meat drama here, only seriously flavorful creations packed full of tender birria, crispy shells, and, most importantly, consomme. Double dipping is a big yes.

While the torta Adrian packs the kind of satisfying heft that’ll have you reaching for a napkin, but not before reaching for another bite.

Just know, that like the cozy atmosphere with its comfortable music, things could get a little saucy and messy with those wings.
