In Katy, there are two types of evenings: wine bar nights and texting your crew to see who’s up for a glass. Nowhere in Texas is the art of the grape taken more seriously. With spots pouring bold reds by the flight and cozy nooks serving small plates that beg for another round, every vinous craving finds its home here. Here are our favorite haunts.
Crust Pizza Co. – Aliana
$ | (281) 657-7787 | WEBSITE

Dinner at Crust Pizza Co. is a casual delight. This worn-in yet clean pizza spot in the Aliana area is perfect for weeknight cravings. The menu has classic pizza options like BBQ chicken and veggie pies, as well as creative choices like the large Blanco pizza on cauliflower crust. They have a couple of beers on draft and some wine, but most people here grab slices and talk about how quickly their orders are ready.
If you’re looking for somewhere to get great tasting pizza without any fuss, this is it.
Pane e Vino
$$ | (281) 391-2222 | WEBSITE

If you’re looking for a quiet, intimate dinner where you can hear every whispered conversation, Pane e Vino is not your spot. But if you want superb Italian cuisine with vibrant energy and a crowd that’s there for the food and wine, this is your place. This neighborhood gem in Katy is basically taking classic Italian dishes and serving them with excellent, attentive hospitality. It’s lively, moderately priced, and that cheese bowl Alfredo prepared tableside is all we ever need on a Friday night.
IL RISTORANTE ITALIANO
$$ | (281) 391-2222 | WEBSITE

Dining in Katy doesn’t have to be a formal affair, especially when there are welcoming spots like IL RISTORANTE ITALIANO. Tucked away in a charming corner, this beautiful, cozy restaurant serves dinner every night with a mix of classics like spaghetti with white wine and cheese wheel pasta, along with heartier options like seafood and steaks.
And for a place with such a flashy, pretty ambiance, IL RISTORANTE ITALIANO feels noticeably relaxed, making it a great place to unwind with someone over cannoli and nicely chilled wine.
Astor Savannah Hookah Lounge
$$ | (832) 913-6465 | WEBSITE

Over time, Astor Savannah Hookah Lounge has settled from a trendy nightlife destination into what it was always intended to be: a neighborhood lounge. On relaxed weekend evenings, this chic African fusion spot is filled with groups sharing hookah flavors and friends unwinding with expertly paired cocktails and small plates.
And besides smoky grilled plantains and savory vegan stews, the evening menu offers non-traditional options like perfectly spiced lamb skewers and flatbreads topped with fresh herbs and tangy sauces.
Postino Cinco Ranch
$$ | (281) 500-9770 | WEBSITE

We love Postino Cinco Ranch because it’s basically a wine bar, but one that also happens to serve really delicious boards, paninis, and thoughtful options for dietary restrictions. Open with a lively atmosphere, this neighborhood favorite can get a little crowded on weekend nights, but the vibe will always be more casual and welcoming than the bustling hotspots happening elsewhere in the area.
Whether you’re in the mood for the bruschetta board, a loaded baked potato soup, or an espresso martini, everything at Postino is somewhat shareable, but will also impress your guests and leave you satisfied until your next visit.
Sonoma Wine & Cheese – Katy
$$ | (281) 505-1625 | WEBSITE

Though you can find wine bars scattered throughout Katy these days, this Sonoma original is a must-visit on anyone’s Texas wine journey. The food is solid, but if you came for a heavy meal, you didn’t get the memo. You come for the relaxed patio atmosphere, unique wine selections, and perfectly curated cheese boards that turn a simple date into an experience.
Koozies Sports Bar and Grill
$ | (281) 815-3121 | WEBSITE

If you instinctively write off going to Koozies for happy hour, it’s your own loss. This hidden gem in Katy serves really good food, and the atmosphere is surprisingly welcoming with a crowd mostly of regulars. Just about every sports bar in town does happy hour specials, but Koozies’ continue to be the most fun and well put together in the area.
Katy Crossing Icehouse
$ | (281) 396-4294 | WEBSITE

Open every night for live music, Katy Crossing Icehouse is much more than just a weekend hangout. It’s an all-evening entertainment destination, with some of the best bands in Katy and a welcoming atmosphere where friends and coworkers gather. The service is solid enough (we appreciate attentive staff like Greg or Laney), but the reason this icehouse is worth knowing about is that even during peak weekend shows, you’ll never have to wait more than 10 minutes for a drink.
PUCCI Café
$ | (713) 391-8500 | WEBSITE

For some, the most important element of a Katy café experience is feeling like you’re part of something special. Currently, that’s PUCCI Café. Drive by this lakeside spot at 11am on a Saturday and you’ll see crowds that rival the nearby shopping plaza. What are all these people snapping photos of other people snapping photos waiting for? Not PUCCI’s human desserts, which are average—including a signature cheesecake that’s fine but forgettable.
We suppose it’s the outdoor patio with unobstructed views of the water and dog owners relaxing with their pets while sipping matcha lattes.
The Growler Spot
$ | (832) 600-5866 | WEBSITE

If chasing down rare IPAs and debating the merits of hazy versus West Coast was your weekend ritual back in 2015, The Growler Spot probably feels like coming home. Grabbing a pint at this craft beer haven was a rite of passage right up there with finally understanding sour beers and convincing your friends that yes, you really do need that flight paddle. These days, The Growler Spot’s vibe has settled into a comfortable neighborhood bar that’s as welcoming as it is predictable.
The beer is solid for a casual weeknight hang (stick to the rotating local taps), plus there’s plenty of space if the whole crew shows up to dissect last night’s game or argue about trivia answers. Skip the mass-produced domestics though, they’re bland, forgettable, and $7 for a pint that tastes like regret.
Crust Pizza Co. – Katy/Cinco Ranch
$ | (281) 769-9920 | WEBSITE

Open for years now, this pizza spot in Katy/Cinco Ranch has become one of the area’s top casual dining institutions. Crust Pizza Co. doesn’t have a specific happy hour, but it serves all day with a wide menu featuring everything from classic pepperoni and margherita to loaded meat lovers and veggie supreme. If you’re hungry, try one of the dozen or so different topping combinations (we usually go for the pepperoni or mushroom).
Katy Beer Garden
$$ | (346) 395-8711 | WEBSITE

Whenever we need to make weekend afternoon plans, Katy Beer Garden tops the list. Saturdays and Sundays here are crowded and a bit chaotic, but the pretzel and brisket quesadillas from the food trucks are worth any hassle. Just press your table-side service button and go wander around the spacious indoor area full of kid-friendly games until your cold beer arrives.
They also have an adults-only section for just a slightly more tranquil atmosphere, which includes large mugs, table service, and a break from the bustle. If you can, grab a table on their outdoor patio on a warm day for some of the best family-watching in Katy.
Messina Hof Harvest Green Winery & Kitchen
$$$ | (346) 292-9463 | WEBSITE

Full of wine enthusiasts and couples celebrating anniversaries, the tasting room at Messina Hof is the most relaxing spot in the whole area. But if you just spent $25 on a flight and want to savor it in their wonderful main dining room, we support you. Is the food any good? Absolutely, and everyone comes here with an appetite for both the scallops and pasta and the strawberry bread pudding.
Passerella
$$ | (281) 213-2770 | WEBSITE

Right on the edge of a tranquil lake in Katy, Passerella consistently draws in couples celebrating anniversaries, families marking birthdays, and people who just appreciate a good meal with a view. So yeah – it’s a destination. Having said that, weeknights are generally more relaxed. For classic comfort, Passerella has standout pasta dishes, but if you want something truly hearty, go for the chicken Parmesan or even the braised meatballs.
